Question:
Two DS9 epsiodes were cut when they came out on VHS: 4.19 To The Death had a 6 second cut and 6.03 Sons and Daughters had a 25 second cut.
So will Paramount resubmit these epsiodes and risk getting a 18 rating ?
Or will they force me to get the R1 boxsets ?
I'm getting the R1's anyway, they will be cheaper and likely be uncut. I have the Next gen sets R1 and they excellent. Roll on Next gen seasons 5-7 and DS9!
Next Gen is the same price here if not cheaper Region 2 than region 1 with a better box here 2.
If R2 is cut, I'll be forced to buy the R4 versions. Non-anamorphic NTSC video looks strange on my JVC.
What exactly was cut out the eps?
I've never seen the uncut epsiodes - but in 4.19 there's a pretty obvious cut when the neck of one Jem'Hadar is broken - in the cut version someone grabs his head from behind and then he's suddenly lying on the ground.
I don't know what was cut in 6.03.
well if i remember correctly the BBFC cut about Terrorism in one of the TNG episodes was waived so heres hoping
But that was a really strange cut - it was just one line of dialogue about the IRA winning or something like that - that wasn't a cut made by the BBFC but a precut made by Paramount to protect the fragile British ego. :p

They should have stuck to past resolved terrorism situations and fictional future ones.
Oh, and I'm sure Sky/BBC made the cut not paramount, and I don't find it "strange" that it was done at the time.
The line in "The High Ground" was only cut on the Sky/BBC transmissions probably because when the episode was aired the situation in Northern Ireland was still rather fragile. There was never anything cut from the VHS release and the same goes for the DVD.

DS9 will be non-anamorphic because it was presented in the 4:3 ratio so no widescreen prints on this.
DS9 wont be an 18 surely. Gore isnt enough to get that, the highest rated DS9 ep was a 15. There are a few 15's but the majority are PG and 12's. Enterprise recently had some scenes cut by UPN on SHhockwave Pt. 2 which had its re-run last wednesday and they allowed the scenes back into the episode, so whether they'll make the DVD release is not known either.
Well, one episode had to be cut to get a 15 - so that cut either stays in or it's an 18.

Since it has been available before as a 15 there will be no way of releasing it as an 18. That's BBFC policy. The only hope is that they waive previous cuts without changing the rating.
And Paramount wouldn't want a 18 rating anyway - that would lead to too many parents realizing that DS9 is not a children show like TNG, TOS or Voyager.
