Question:
Was having a discussion about Godfather part 3 with a friend the other day. I was saying it isn't bad as people sometimes make out but it's nowhere near the quality of the first two. He went even further to say it was almost as good as! Mind you I've had similar arguments with this fool before. He reckons Robocop 2 and 3 aren't much worse than the original!
Anyway, it got me thinking are there any films where the third part is the best? Generally (in my opinion) the original is never bettered, although there are rare instances where the second is better (eg Aliens, some would argue Godfather part 2). I couldn't think of any at the time, but a couple have just occurred to me. Army of Darkness is one (which I now prefer slightly to Evil Dead 2 having seen the bootleg edition). Also some people seem to think Day of the Dead is the best film in the dead trilogy, although I think it's much weaker than Night and Dawn (used to prefer Dawn but have watched Night a lot more recently and am now leaning towards that). There's also Three Colours: Red, although that doesn't really count cos those films were conceived as a trilogy with stories overlapping and tying together in Red.
Anyway I think I've covered the obvious ones. Anyone else got any suggestions of other instances where the third film in a series of films is the best?
Controversial decision, but i think Army of Darkness is the best of the Evil Dead series  ( i doubt anyone will agree :smokin: )
Not techinically an out & out sequel, but Chasing Amy is the best of Jersey trilogy imo.
Nightmare on Elm Street pt3: Dream Warriors is a fun film, although i prefer the original.
The Madness of King George III is pretty good, but I've not seen the others so can't compare it :(
IMO the only ones better than the original film or its first sequel
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
Goldfinger
Very Good
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
Die Hard with a Vengeance
Army of Darkness
Good
Back to the Future Part 3
Return of the Jedi
Mad Max beyond Thunderdome
Day of the Dead
Godfather Part 3
Jurassic Park 3
Hannibal
Lethal Weapon 3
Alien 3
Dream Warriors
Clear and Present Danger
Bad
Beverly Hills Cop 3
Robocop 3
Scream 3
Exorcist 3
Jaws 3
Superman 3
Texas Chainsaw 3
Highlander 3
Rambo 3
Childs Play 3
Friday the 13th Part 3
Should all be great
T3
Matrix Revolutions
The Return of the King
Blade 3
without a doubt HOUSE 3.
always quite liked Friday the 13th 3 (first time he gets his mask), Exorcist 3 and Rambo 3 from your bad list, although none are as good as the originals
worst 3rd film has to be Halloween 3 with all them androids and rubbish like that
I prefer Nightmare On Elm Street 3 to all the rest.
Got to be Jaws 3:lol:
Exorcist III is much better (& scarier) film than the pile of clag original. (imho)
