Question:
I just had delivery of my Spiderman R1 today from CD-WOW, and it doesn't bloody work in my Sony DVD Player, the first disc that's managed to not play in it (was set to multiregion from the factory, it's a native region 3). It works fine on my PC though (Creative Dxr2).
Should I send it back and get the region 4 , four disc version for £10 extra? Or will that suffer the same problem??
I think that the Region 1 release MIGHT BE RCE encoded.
I say might be because I don't actually have the disc to hand in order to check!
This may be what the problem is, on the other hand it could be something completely different...

It is, I never bought one before, and I'm not sure it was marked as RCE when I placed my order (preordered it about 2 months ago-ish)
Is the canadian cover for spiderman bi-lingual?
Spiderman Region 1 is in fact RCE.
Region 3 is a copy of the Region 1, but DOES work. No RCE on Region 3 so, far .
Fingers crossed it continues
have you tried putting a non rce region 1 into your player, letting it play for a bit and then putting in spidey?

nope - Columbia do separate frenchy versions....(or 'version francais' to be precise).
Forgive me for I am slow, but is there a difference between the LE version you can get ay ********* or the one at Dvdsoon?
I only ask because there's about £12 difference in price.
probably not, but the higher price at MT is prolly to reflect their higher shipping costs with a big set like that. It's the same for the whopper 5-disc LOTR set at MT - £57.99 or something - which is much cheaper sourced direct from over the pond.
DVDSoon's massive advantage is that they charge the same price for shipping regardless of the size/weight - a big bonus with larger box sets...
 Cheers fella.
I have a Pioneer 525 from Techtronics which has never had a problem with a DVD, RCE or otherwise.
Until tonight and Spiderman R1.
Inserted DVD and got the nice RCE menu stating the disk is fine but it ain't playing on my player :(
After sitting staring at the TV for what seemed an age and probably looking a little gormless I used the workaround of inserting another R1 disk, letting it play and then going back to spiderman. It worked fine but I assume this is a sign that RCE is getting cleverer.
Damn :(
Which techtronics mod did you get? rather than the automatic mode, try changing the region manually from the handset, that might work.
My techtronics pioneer model has never had a problem with RCE either, but then the machine was r1 to start with.:D
funny thing is i have the same problem watching spiderman... think i need to get a remote hack for my Sony DAVS400 dvd player, currently region 2.
Anybody have any ideas about how i can do this or where i can find info about this???
:rocker:
I have posted this in a seperate thread but I thought what the hell I'll ask here as well. :norty:
I have an AIWA XD-DV480 and wondered if anyone else here has one and has successfully played R1 Spider-Man on it. Or any other RCE titles for that matter :)

Well its 3 years old - I got the external multi mod. I do have it set to region free to stop the region changing as I have a fair split between R1s and R2s.
The work around isn't too bad I suppose.
The RCE is exactly what's stopping me getting the R1 Spidey CE :( . I have just ordered a MR Sony DVP-NS905 from Superfi but I don't know if this would play RCE Spidey cos even people who have had no trouble with RCE's before are having loads of grief from the R1 Spidey discs. I might just buy the R1 Boxset & sell the Spidey 2 disc that comes with it, then buy the 2 disc R4 from CD-WOW :norty:
