Question:
Equal parts martial arts movie, futuristic prison picture and sci-fi monster flick, 'The Story Of Ricky' is set in an alternative universe similar to our own. After killing the drug dealer responsible for his girlfriend's death, Ricky (Siu-Wong Fan) finds himself banged up in a prison ruled by a corrupt warden and a group of super-mercenaries known as the Gang of Four. Trained in an especially deadly form of martial arts, and possessing super-human strength making him virtually indestructible, Ricky responds to the bullying of various inmates, prison guards and the Gang of Four in the only way he knows how!
A hilarious, crowd-pleasing party movie if ever there was one, this is one film that really does have to be seen to be believed!
I got the above discription from Play247.
What is The Story of Ricky like? Is it any good? Worth chancing if I've never seen?
here (http://www.mowersgym.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/Fight.mpeg) is a short clip
Theres a good bet you've probably haven't seen anything like it ...
Story of Ricky is indeed a Beer n Pizza type of film & is definitely worth checking out imo.
I just got mine today - don't know anything about it, but I'm going to watch at the weekend :)
Mr Stanton rates 'The Story of Ricky' as the best Friday night beer and Curry/Pizza film...ever!
It also helps if you watch it with the OTT dub and not the subtitles! (This is the only HK film i'd dare say that about.):)
Tips before watching...
Think Prisoner: Cell Block H meets Bad Taste plus Kung Fu!
Also I think it 'plays' better with the English dub.
....and don't forgot it based on a Japanese comic book!
The story is flimsy. The martial arts on display is pretty poor. BUT - and it's a big but - you wont find a film like this which makes you grimace and laugh all at the same time and with equal measure. Highly recommended.
Here's Mr Brookes review of the HK disc.

I too watched it with the dub...it ups the cheese factor x10 and the to 11.
Initially I was disappointed by it, for some reason I was under the impression that it was a straight film but as others have rightly said it’s tremendous fun.
I want to know how the film compares with Ichi the killer aslo a manga to film adaptation ...

Well Ricky is much more cheesey and much more fun than Ichi. Mr Stanton found Ichi just shocking for the sake of it and the rape stuff was just nasty.
As a person that prefers ost, and speaks cantonese.
I have to say that the english dub enhances the film, and is more fun whilst watching it.
However. Should I upgrade for the HKL?
Thanks everyone, sounds like a no brainer. I might buy. According to the BBFC website it's passed with no cuts made.
If Michael Brooke can give a film like this 7/10 it must be good fun.
If the wood plane scene doesn't make u grimace nothing will !!!
it's a good laugh but once i saw it i had no inclination to see it again.
I have the R3 of this.Is it worth getting the HKL version ???
HKL version less than a tenner from CDWow.
yes i know thats why i'm asking ! :)
Watch it with mates, you will not be disappointed!
I personally love this movie.
If you like your kung-fu movies 'montery jack' style, then buy it.
I have a question for ppl that have seen it though..
Is it just me, or does the warden look like an evil chinese Christopher Walken?
I've had the region 3 version for a while now, is it worth getting the HKL version? As I don't know the specs for it yet.
Riki-Oh is plain fantastic and good violent. I cant say that I like the Dub better than origin language though, maybe because I watch the subtitle first and Mad Dragon name change in the dub to daisy or something. Classic film for smokey heads and drunkards alike, come feel Riki and bleed people.
