Question:
I like old Kerwin Mathews actioners and want to get the DVD of "Jack the Giant Killer" (1962). There is a very cheap R1 disc available on Amazon (Good Times Home Video) but I am scared that this might be the trashy 'musical' version. Furthermore, it does not mention the aspect ratio and I want the Widescreen version only. Does anyone have any info, including the prospect of an R2 disc?
Scared me half to dearth as a child - had nightmares for months afterwards.
Very disappointed to catch it years later and find out that it hadn't stood the test of time. :(
There is no listing for a DVD release on IMDB - I know it isn't 100% accurate, but it would seem to indicate no current release.
But there IS a DVD listed for R1 on the IMDB site! I referred to the 1962 Kerwin Mathews version of the film. There may have been an earlier one. Could you be referring to that?
it is the original version, but fullframe, still,it is cheap..
Thanks Saltysam. I think I'll wait for the R2 Widescreen version whenever that comes out. This is a film that I have waited a long time to see on DVD and can afford to wait a bit more.
I referred to the 1962 Kerwin Mathews version of the film.
So did I -Kerwin Mathews, only used, I believe, as he had played a similar role in one of the Sinbad films.
I may be mistaken with the DVD listing, last time I checked I couldn't find any details for it.
Trouble was that I'd always remembered the film as having effects to rival Jason and the Argonauts and similar films, but the memory had definately cheated me.
The bit that freaked me out as a kid was when all the witches/ghosts kidnapped the heroine from the ship. I used to think they were going to come through my bedroom wall. :shocker:
