Legal question about using The Grinch
Question:

I'm going to be doing a poster for Christmas to go up in a local bar and I was going to use the Grinch as my inspiration. I'm going to get a photo of my mate’s face, he will be DJ'ing and then digitally change it so it's green and then add some hair. Then draw the rest of the poster in the style of the Grinch. Would I be breaking the law by doing this?
I will not be selling the poster and will not be making any money from them. I'm also not going to take an image and use it; I'm going to draw the entire poster my self. So it's just the idea of the Grinch.
The poster I was thinking of basing it on is this one:

Thanks.

What's the likelihood of anyone who has an interest in protecting the copyright of The Grinch, actually drinking in your pub?
Then decide if they would really be interested in pursuing you for copyright breach over one hand-drawn poster.
Answers itself, really....

... and also, what's the worst they could do even if someone with an interest in the copyright did actually see it? Probably just ask you to remove the "offending" poster...
Dazza.
