Question:
A mate just called me from Canada and he was saying he heard hollywood was going to do a pigs ear remake of battle royale, i do hope he is mis-informed as hollywood dont usually do good remakes. (ring virus????)
EDIT:: What order did the ring films go is it ring then ring 2 then ring 0?
Wasn't Ring Virus the Korean remake?

They've done a remake of Ring - and apparently its quite a good remake and they are already planning sequels that may or may not be remakes of Ring 2 and Ring 0
Ring, Ring 2 then Ring O the birthday.
What i found funny about the remake of BR is that BR hasn't even been released for home purchase in the USA
Well many studios are now after various Asian movies to remake, for the lack of original ideas, they say in Korea alone there are thousands of films.
I read somewhere that Tom Cruise is going to produce a remake of The Eye, De Niro producing Chaos, and WB remaking Akira. :|
ah so thats why they banned BR

Battle Royale was never banned in America. Just that no American distributor would pick it up.
Films can't be banned in the USA anyway. :|

Haviong wached it for the 1st time the other night, I'm not at all surprised that there's going to be an American remake.
Just expect less violence and a whole heap of preaching.
"...I read somewhere that Tom Cruise is going to produce a remake of The Eye..."
...a very busy producer, then, is our Tom - as evidenced by his heavy 'production schedule' for 2002/3/4 listed on <a href="http://us.imdb.com/Name?Cruise,+Tom">this page</a> of the IMDb site...

oops
ah, i always wondered what unrated meant.
Ring Virus was the Korean remake of Ring, and in my opinion was simply terrible.

ah, i always wondered what unrated meant. Yeah, but of course unrated or even NC-17 effectively means banned as far as a cinema release goes, and on video/dvd Blockbuster, Walmart etc. effectively enforce their own standards on what they will sell.

Hopefully, in vain I know, these will get as far as the proposed remake of Shall We Dance.
The Akira movie will be a two hour retelling of the motorcycle sequence near the beginning of the anime. I just don't see them doing a better job of turning an 1800 page manga, do they know it's an adaption?, into an under 2 hour movie.
why do they want to remake akira when there is a perfectly good anime?
there are certain things that will only work as anime, and akira is one of them....altho i didnt like them anyway :P too strange for my tastes
The american version of the ring is enjoyable, except for a young child added to the story.
Mt Stanton watched Ring 0:Birthday last night and for once i think that any sequel the American's can come up will be a biiiiiigggg improvement.
I can't see any American studio (indie or major) touching a remake of Battle Royale with a very very large barge pole. School kids shooting each other is just too much of a hot potatoe for American cinema goers. (Far too many home truths.)
In fact i'd say there's more chance of Ichi the killer being remade as an Rob Schnider film.
They'll probably change it from school kids to college kids - and I'll wager that we'll end up with the likes of James Van Der Beek or Freddie Prinze Jr. in it. :oh-hum:
James Van Der Beek was awesome as Sean Bateman, Patrick's brother in another Bret Easten Ellis adaptation, The Rules of Engagement, check it out when it comes to UK theaters, if at all.
Do you mean "Rules Of Attraction"?
Well if they remove the government policy element, substitute kidnapping for picked by official lottery and make it a "fight for your life against an unknown enemy" rather than a free for all shoot out amongst the pupils then it might get released in the US.
I can't see much point in a remake since whereas you might claim that there were levels of meaning lost in the translation of Ring so a remake might be justified, in the case of Battle Royale its mostly fairly straightforward plus as pointed out by a number of others school kid massacres are not popular subjects at the moment (excluding Bowling for Columbine)

Maybe Dan Quayle would be interested in producing?
The proposed remake of My Sassy Girl baffles me too - it isn't a high concept script (as 'The Ring' and perhaps 'The Eye' are) nor does it have particularly tight plotting (in fact it's at it's weakest when it tries to string everything together). The 'sassiness' of the Girl is pretty unusual in Korean film (and maybe in Korean society) but it won't seem particularly special in an American environment either.

tsk, why can't Hollywood come up with it's own ideas instead of nicking everyone elses.
Hollywood.. the Pete Waterman of the film world :oh-hum:
Hollywood should just all stop now. It goes on for too long and it should be end. No more **** brain people giving out rubbish to fund drug habit.
Theft of idea is nasty job for scum people. Leave real film alone and please die now.

New Line Takes on Battle Royale
Source: Variety June 8, 2006
New Line Cinema has bought the remake rights to the controversial Japanese sci-fi film Battle Royale and set up the project with Neal Moritz and Roy Lee, reports Variety.
The original film, produced by Toie and released in 2000 amid concerns about its violence, is set in an apocalyptic future in which schools are overrun by uncontrolled violence; the government responds by organizing an annual Battle Royale, in which a school class is picked at random and students are pitted against each other on an abandoned island in a game of survival.
Toie also produced a sequel in 2003, Battle Royale II -- Requiem, in which a new class of teen students are forced to battle a rebel group let by a survivor of a previous Battle Royale.
It would be brilliant if they made it a "Dirty dozen" type movie with lots of famous US TV and film teens, mixing the competition order so anyone who knew the original wouldn't know what was coming.
Watch as Dawson,Willow and Veronica Mars heads explode (or 2006 versions).
:oh-hum:
Can they PG-13-ise this?
It'll be toned down so much...why bother?
It will also be full of people in their late 20s playing teenagers.

Acording to AICN there going for an R rating.
Still the remake can't be any worse than Battle Royale 2.
