Blade Runner
Question:

Any news on the anniversary edition of this film? I thought that ScottFree Productions were preparing it for it's 20th aniversary, but there doesn't seem to be much chane we'll see it this year.
Any news?
Thanks...

Give them a break - they’ve only had a couple of decades to get ready for this
Bit pathetic they can’t get it out in the 20th anniversary year.

Last I heard a 3-disc package including three different versions of the movie and plenty of extras is due for release early next year. Be glad to see it arrive as the only copy I have is the 1993 Directors Cut on VHS at the moment.

This was also the last I heard on the matter. I've not heard anything for several months, but I can't wait to see this movie finally receive the treatment it deserves. Scott's films seem to usually get a decent DVD release when they appear so I'm confident this film will be given a special treatment.
It is a shame they couldn't get it out for it's 20th anniversary but fingers crossed for a release early next year. :)

I wish they'd get their fingers out. I love this film and sooooo want it on DVD. The number of times I've had to stop myself giving in and buying the current poor version.
C'mon Ridley, sort it out! :)

Answers:

Ridley already recorded the commentary, will probably be out earlish next year.

Hurry up or I'll have to succumb to the Criterion laserdisc. :(

Literally just bought and listened to the Vangelis soundtrack. Just whets the appetite even further.

Blade Runner Commentary track, again.. :)
Ridley
Hi everyone I’m Ridley Scott, and this is my movie Blade Runner. *chews cigar* Ok so this is the opening scroll, we felt that Android was an overused term so we settled on Replicant. *chews cigar* I felt it was important to establish the history of the characters, I was going to shoot an uprising on an Off-world colony but that was canned for budget. *chews cigar* This is called the Hades landscape, sort of inspired by where I grew up in Northern England, nightmarish hellish place..ha! *chews cigar* Not really. Anyway, this is one of our Replicants, Leon played by Brion James. Not a bad actor, perfect for the role.
Brion James
Let me tell you about being dead!
Ridley Scott
Holy ****! What was that? Did you hear that, guys? *chews cigar* Strange. Anyway, here’s Rick Deckard, played by Harrison Ford, fine actor, wanted him to wear a Trilby but he refused because he didn’t want to carry the baggage over from Indiana Jones which he just finished.. *chews cigar* I wanted a hat on him and had major words to be honest, bit of a cold fish on set *chews cigar*, had this rain machines going all the time
Harrison Ford
Who you calling a cold fish, huh?
Ridley Scott
What are you doing here, guys?
Harrison Ford
You treated the cast like cattle, I played a detective who did no detecting. We didn’t give the audience what they wanted.
Ridley Scott
Now look here Harrison I..
Harrison Ford
I even had to kiss that bitch Sean Young! I’m outta here, Scott.
Ridley Scott
..And good riddance! *chews cigar* Never did forgive me for not casting him in Gladiator. OK, can we run this again, guys?
It ends at this point. I would have liked to hear this on the DVD though I doubt if it’ll be released. Lucky to get this transcript.

Blade Runner is a visually stunning film, but the actual plot and pacing is enough to send you into a coma. Watch it for the brilliant music and visuals, but make sure you have drank a pint of turkish coffee before you see it!

Answers:

nothing wrong with the plot and pacing, its one of it's strong points, it doesnt seem rushed - its cool, collected, calculated.....

Answers:

yep, the pacing suits the movie just fine.

I prefer the theatrical version myself, complete with dodgy voice over.

Hey Dan Druff, you wanna say something about Sean Young, you say it to my face, you hear!
:dork: :o
Funny though, I laughed a couple of times.

it is a brilliant film - many philip k. dick fans seem to be dismayed that it is not a wholly accurate translation of the source material (although a PKD fan i haven't read do androids dream...) but the film is without parallel in it's realisation of an alternate world, some truly mesmerising images. did PKD actually see the original theatrical version? i think he saw an early cut and was warming to it.
there doesn't seem to have been any solid news for a while now on the new dvd, tis really annoying as the original 'director's cut' disk has some really atrocious macroblocking in parts.

Hey it wasn't me magic man, it was Mr. Harrison Ford FFS!
The film is absolutely superb, brilliant, amazing. Best depiction of the future I have seen bar none. A whole atmospheric world created with cinematic brilliance that has rarely, if ever, been equalled. Vangelis' score is fantastic, and Philip K. Dick was thrilled at a rough cut shortly before he dies. Do Androids dream of Electric Sheep is one of my favourite books..especially after seeing the movie..spotting similar scenes and realising that the tone of the book is captured perfectly in Ridley Scotts masterpiece, though a lot of 'scenes' understandably differ. can't wait for the Special Edition..and hopefully the fabled Workprint..:)

From BRMovie.com (http://www.brmovie.com/BR_Special_Edition.htm):
23rd April 2003
The new news today (23APR03) is that the old news is still the news. Warner Home Video representatives held a webchat on the Home Theater Forum last night. When asked about the status of the upcoming BR DVD set, they responded, "BLADE RUNNER will happen, but there are legal hurdles to overcome. We want it just as much as you do. Stay tuned." So, the lawyers are still getting rich and "hurdles" implies it isn't imminent. Oh well, another update in 3 months time, I guess.
