Question:
I know that Halloween 1-5 and H20 can all be bought on DVD in the UK, but does anyone know why Halloween 6 cannot?
I bought all the first 5 on Anchor bay, apart from 3, which was by the original film studio I think, but then saw on Amazon US that there was a Halloween 6. I thought that maybe this was an off-track, unofficial Halloween, similar to Halloween 3, but managed to get hold of a copy in the States, and although it isn't directed by John Carpenter, and has slightly different Theme music (a little more jazzed up), it follows the storyline from 5 well, and fits in with the series much better than the bizarre, unrelated Halloween 3.
Anyone got any comments?
Cheers
Is Halloween 6 the one that is about to open in the cinemas here?
No! that's No8, "Resurrection" or "travesty" depending on your point of view! ;)
Halloween 6 is, I believe, distributed by Buena Vista in the UK, the same as H20. Whilst H20 has been available for a while in the UK, they have chosen not to release Part 6 so far. I don't think it ever had a UK theatrical release, having gone straight to video.
When the recent Anchor Bay boxset was released, BV licensed H20 for inclusion, however either they weren't asked for the rights to Part 6 or AB forgot to ask for them.
As for 6 not being directed by John Carpenter, he didn't direct parts 2 through 8 either so it isn't exactly a deviation from the norm...
the 6th part being the The Curse of Michael Myers this was made by Dimension(Miramax) and was the first film afterr buying the rights to Halloween i believe. Was made to end the cliffhanger with Myers from pt 5. With probably the prospect of using the name Halloween to make further movies (but more in line with pt3 ie not about Myers), but thats just my thoughts :).
I believe the director or writer died while making it and so the best version wasnt avaialble (again my thoughts :) ).
You must remember pt 3 was only made because Carpenter was contracted to make 2 more movies and after pt 2 I think he fancied a change (although only co writing 2 and helping out with 3 :) ).
Might help you but I doubt it :)

I stand corrected on the Carpenter thing. I thought he was involved with them all upto 6, didn't know he was only Director for 1 and Co-Writer for 2/3.
I understand that there are licensing issues for Anchor Bay to worry about, but you would think that they would have tried their hardest before releasing a Halloween Boxset to include 6, as what is the point in releasing an incomplete series, with a part which for me is a great stepping stone from 5 to H20, and leaving a gap. It doesn't make sense for me.
What are the odds of there being a US Box Set next year with all 8 films? And also what are the chances of a UK Halloween 6 release, possibly including both the Theatrical and Producers cuts, which I hear are very different.
Wasn't number 6 involving a male college student or similar who somehow got involved in the whole Myers myth? I'm sure I saw it on TV earlier this year.
EDIT - just checked and I have it on tape. And a quick check on imdb confirms it is the one I was thinking about.
The male character in Curse is Tommy Doyle, who was the young boy that Laurie Strode babysits for in the original film.
has anyone got the dvdset? whats this 60 minute carpenter documentary on there? is it the mark kermode interview from 1999?
Halloween is a joke after Part 2!:(
Halloween sucks. H20 is the best part.
And yes, I did just say that.
I have to say I think they're all pretty good... Part 1 set the slasher genre on track and was great... part two was a cash in and carpenter admits it, he had no story after the first so he made Laurie Michaels sister... Genious!!! :D
But Halloween: Resurrection worries me.... look away now
If Michael kills Laurie then what will he motivation be? he'll just become another Jason Vorhees without motivation or plot... its just wrong... I suppose Laurie does have a son to go after but like Josh Hartnett will agree to do another Halloween movie... pfffffffft.
Last I heard about the UK release of the curse of michael myers is that BV was planning on trying for a two disc set which featured the Producers Cut of the film... YAY... the only way to get the producers cut is through boot leg versions and you'd think with Mr. Akkads thirst to exploit the myers story, that he'd release this version of the movie... :shocker:
