Question:
Anyone got any news on an Anamorphic Release of this yet?
Is the R1 in going to be in that ratio?
No, R1 is also Pan&Scammed, though I don't know which ratio it was broadcast in.
I was under the impression that series one was filmed in 4:3, or $:£. ;-) It's certainly the way it was shown on TV over here. Speaking as a professional cameraman, the framing of the shots - for the most part - would indicate that the shoot was framed for 4:3, or at least a very similar ratio, so it may well not be P&S after all. Was it not only from Series two onwards that this was broadcast in widescreen? I don't know... the mystery lives on.
The mystery doesn't live on - it's dead and starting to smell funny.
As has been discussed here many times before the first season WAS shot in widescreen it WAS shown in widescreen on some stations in the US and you CAN (or at least COULD) download it in widescreen from the newsgroups.
Sorry for shouting.
As SvenL says, it was shot (and shown in the US) in Widescreen - but, I believe it was shot so that it could also be watched in 4:3 (like the first season of The Sopranos).
The different DVDs are -
R1 (Canada): CSI: Deluxe Set Out Now - Alliance/Atlantis release, half-season boxset. 4:3 No other details known - though it is presumed this release does not have the original title music ("Who Are You").
R1 (US): No releases scheduled.
R2: CSI: Crime Scene Investigation - Vol. 1/Vol. 2 Out Now - Alliance/Atlantis release, half season boxsets. 4:3 Different opening theme music.
R4: No releases scheduled.
Personally, I really want CSI on DVD but until there's a release with "Who Are You" over the titles I don't want to buy anything.

A lot of shows seem to start thier run in 4:3 then, in later seasons switch to 16:9. Presumeably the film stock and production is cheaper for 4:3, then when the series gets popular and bugets can be upped, they switch to 16:9

There is one, same cover/boxset as R1/2 coming out in 4 days:

I'm happy to wait on for the inevitable US release, in the hope that it's 16x9 from the start and has the proper theme.
Like I've said before, it just isn't CSI if it doesn't open with a pithy comment followed by a blast of The Who.

Quite true. :p
Sorry, hadn't noticed about the R4 release. It's a shame that one of these versions couldn't be released by someone else. :oh-hum:

I took back my C.S.I season one, part one after finding out that it didn't have the correct theme at the beginning.

Sorry to bump this old post but I just discovered this gem of a show on the Swiss TV (they are showing Season 3 at the moment).
Pretty annoyed on missing out on the first 2 seasons though.
Does anybody know if there are any decent reviews or comparisons anywhere between R1, R2 and R4 of the Season 1 DVD releases. i.e which is the best to get, and does R1 have the proper Who soundtrack (unlike the R2 release if I understand these posts correctly) ?
Thanks.
And Marg Helgenberger is one very fine lady. :notworthy :luv:

I have the R1 (US) and can confirm it DOES have the correct "Who Are You?" theme tune. :)

What theme music do the R2 dvds have then?
Have to say that I got the R1 (US) set without ever seeing the series on TV and cannot imagine it without The Who's theme
Just hoping and praying that series 2 gets a release date soon because series one is making my weekends all the happier!
Season 2 R2 is June/July, will be anamorphic W/S and will have The Who theme. About as close as we’ll come to an apology and an admission that Momentum screwed up the first season I’d say.
So if I get it, even the R1 release (although having the correct theme music) is 4:3 ratio and not Widescreen?
Yes, R1 S1 is full frame ergo there’s no "perfect" release anywhere - innit great? :oh-hum:
