Question:
I popped into my local Blockbuster today, they had the Burt Reynolds Mean Machine on DVD, but it was re-titled to The Longest Yard ?!?!
Whats up with that then?
IIRC The Longest Yard is it's correct title but was changed to The Mean Machine for the UK market. I assume it's now got it's original name to avoid confusion with the Vinnie Jones film
It was always called 'The Longest Yard' but retitled Mean Machine for England so it would sound like a hard action film and not an American Football film.
That was a close race for you guys in posting that!! :)
I never knew it had a seperate US title, its always been mean machine to me.
The guy who plays the Scottish hard man in this film used to drink in my local boozer.
He now stays in London, but pops in for a pint everytime he is back in Edinburgh.
Vinny Jones' was mean machine in the US.
Strange why it got released there before here
Some films do get released here amazingly before America.
The 51st state has just opened in the states.
It is called Formula 51 there though.
In this case though was changed probably due to poor reviews.
Also Roadkill was Joyride in the states. I could go on but i dont think i will bother for everybodys sake ;)
Whats up with that then?
