Aki Kaurismaki retrospective at Birmingham TV and Film Festival
Question:

It seems that there will be a Kaurismaki retrospective and showing of the Man without a past at this years Birmingham Film and TV festival (14th November - 23rd November) :).
The films being shown include
Drifting Clouds
Leningrad Cowboys go America
I hired a contract killer
Juha
Take care of your scarf, Tatjana (with accompanying shorts)
Total Balalaika Show
There are more details (and online booking) at http://www.film-tv-festival.org.uk
Now if somebody would just organise a few Kaurismaki DVD's
Scott

Answers:

Great er pity a number of the good films are on at the electric. Okay so they put on films that wouldn't otherwise be shown (prior to the French owned UGC chain moving in) and they try their best but the projectors are unreliable and the sound dodgy.
Might be worth going to the IMAX for some of the japanese anime stuff though

Answers:

wow, this is the first time in my life that i've evr wished i lived in Birmingham!
seriously though, go and see them. Kaurismaki's films are an aquired taste, although his brand of Scandinavian deadpan depression is especially warm once you get to know it. i have a few of his films on tape and am going to put them on now!
enjoy my friend!

What japanese anime is on at the IMAX? I live pretty near Birmingham and could be drawn in if it's good stuff. Is there a site for this festival?

Sandrew-Metronome is expected to publish The Man Without a Past in December in the Nordic countries. No information about subtitling is available for the time being. The previous film is due during spring 2003.

Finnish web-site Filmifriikki (http://www.filmifriikki.fi) says that TMWaP (available 5.12) will be subtitled in English and in Swedish.
