Question:
I currently own the Soprano's Series 1 region 4 boxset, it has 6 discs. However the region 1 only has 4 discs and crams more episodes onto each one, therefore is the R2/R4 a better quality package to own over its region 1 varirant?
Cheers
Not in my opinion. For one reason or another I have R1 for Seasons 1 and 3, and R2 for Season 2. I much prefer the R1 box-sets. Disc quality is good for all, but packaging is much better on R1, and extras seem no worse (thin on either). R1 Season 3 has some nice commentaries on 3 or 4 eps though.
Been watching season 3 over the last couple of weeks. Fantastic!
Thanks for that, the Soprano's is possibly the best thing I'ver ever seen on television, I'm hooked on the series 1, watching an episode or two a night... next is season 2 for me.
I think season 1 R1 is 16/9 but R2 is pan&scan.
Could be wrong.

Nope, you're correct
I take it 16/9 is better then?

yes as the 4:3 version is missing the sides of the picture due to the pan&scam.
Also R2 is only DD2.0 Surround. R1 is DD5.1

My region 4 fits the screen completely, but it is DD2.0, so I better get region 1 now then. :)

I think you are wrong, tbh. I have both R1 and R2 sets of Sopranos (see above) - both are 16:9, both are anamorphic, and while not all episodes on R2 are 5.1, most of them from Season 2 onwards are 5.1 on both R1 and R2. The main difference is packaging.
<p align=center>Sopranos S1 is 4:3 and DD2.0 on R2 and R4 and anamorphic widescreen and DD5.1 on R1
S2 is widescreen on all regions but the first 1 or 2 episodes are only in DD2.0 on R2/4 but 5.1 on R1
S3 seems be the same on all 3 regions.
:)
Thanks, I'll get R1 from now on, but I can still view my R4 fullscreen (wide 16:9) for some reason.
Im in the middle of Season 3  Best season yet!!!  Best show on tv for a long time!!!! :D :D

Yeah - that's exactly where I am. Cool in it? The only problem seems to be that whenever I have a personnel issue at work, my immediate thought is to get the individual wacked! :D
I sold my R2's to buy the R1's and I've never regretted it. They are fantastic boxsets and I'm now primed to watch S4 on E4 next week.
Bick - I also have thoughts of some of my work colleagues "going into witness protection" :)

Is the R1 really that different??

They are really nicely produced. (and take up much less shelf-space)
Season 1: Region 2 is ****, don't touch it. 4:3 pan and scam picture, no 5:1, no commentary on the pilot, and missing the excellent and insightful 80 minute interview with David Chase.
Season 2: Region 2 is fine picture and sound wise for the most part (some early epps, god knows why, are missing 5:1), but it's shawn of all the extras. Region 1 has commentaries on 4 episodes, and they're very well done.
Season 3: Not got this yet, but everything I've seen says it's the same on all regions.
What time is it on E4 next week? :)
Just found out! 10 o'clock :) Storming! :D
Cheers
