Just saw this in the HMV sale. Should I consider it?
Don't consider it. I bought it in the sale, and the subtitles are often unreadable in white on a white background. The film print also is very dirty in places.
After watching it, having to pause the DVD several times and zoom the subtitles to read them, I compared it to the Long Play VHS I copied off of Sky about 4 years ago. The VHS was much better. So the DVD went back to HMV and I got a refund.
Apparantly the French version is very good, if you can find it.

Hedgie is absolutely right - don't bother with the Tartan. Go with the Studio Canal French release - excellent picture and 5.1 sound. I think it might actually be deleted now (neither Amazon nor DVD Zone list it as readily available anymore). I managed to grab a copy from www.fnac.com a few weeks ago.
There's a Korean version on a 'Cinema Masterpiece' label, it's anamorphic and has optional English subs. I don't know if it's identical to the French release (but for added Korean subs) - there's a good chance it is. The French release was deleted and then rereleased, has it gone OOP again?
The Korean release is on the 'Masterpiece Collection' label, my mistake. It doesn't seem to feature the commentary or short film that're on the French disc (may not matter if you can't speak French and the comm. isn't subbed) but does have deleted scenes and trailers. Best news is the price - 9,900 Won - or about a fiver! Going to rent or buy it soon.
I think there was a 2 disc version released in France but,I can't seem to find it anywhere.
Finally .. it seems La Haine is about to become available in France again (the standard one, not the 2-disc).
www.amazon.fr at €12.99 + delivery €5.89 = approximately £12.65 at today's prices, being released on 23 April. My first order from France.
