Question:
I was wondering do all distributors now produce bi-lingual covers for their Canadian releases?
Would someone please be able to offer a list of companies whose DVDs are still okay to order from Canadian e-tailers?
I've no objection whatsoever to Canadian distributors pursuing whatever packaging policies they like, but I personally don't like the format.
will e.t have a bi-lingual cover? i really wanna know! :)

Since E.T. is a Universal title it'll have a Bi-Lingual cover.
And this list should really be made sticky.
SVenL: Cheers for that info :) yes, make it a sticky! :)
Actuallly, SvenL is a little incorrect...
Buena Vista titles are NOT BILINGUAL.
Big Trouble, Count Of Monte Cristo, Hellraiser 6: Hellseeker, Sorority Boys do NOT have bilingual packaging.
Alliance Atlantis distributes Miramax, Dimension, New Line and USA Films. So if they have a French audio track, then the packaging will be bilingual.
Same with Paramount, Universal and recently Dreamworks.

With LOTR: 4 and 5 disc editions being an exception - Alliance have already said they will not be doing bilingual covers for it and will just have a sticker on the shrink wrapping indicating the French Track being included
I still holding my breath on that one :shocker:
Alliance Atlantis make no sense :brickwall
Many thanks for your responses.

Where did you get this information? Btw us version has no french track.
The most pointless repeat of the title in french on the spine of the case has to be Jason X. It appears the french for this title is Jason X.
What I can't understand with the Canadian bi-lingual covers is......
Why do they sometimes have both English & French on one side, and just French on the reverse. Surely it would be best to have English on one side and French on the reverse, then its up to the person buying it whether they speak French or English to just flip it over to show the side with their own language. It should'nt cost any more money in design or print, so why don't they do it.
From a design point, its much better then trying to squeeze 2 languages onto one side which if not handled well can look really ugly or badly designed.
And secondly, by flipping it over to the desired language it would make everyone happy
from a thread ages ago, someone mentioned that it was for legal reasons.
Although why they don't have bilingual cover on one side and a pure english on the other...

That's Canadians for you, it annoyed me as well.
Just wondering -
When did this bi-lingual packaging regulations come into effect? Are some Paramount/Universal etc. titles still okay to order from Canada?
Thanks.
Will AOTC be affected do we know?
According to the above titles, Fox releases don't have Bi-Lingual so I would think AOTC would be english only.
Can anyone clarifiy is the Ultimate 3 disc ET set, Bi-Ligual or not. A simple yes or no will do, another thread said it isn't but the 2 disc is. Answer please!:smokin:
Star Wars: AOTC will NOT be bilingual.
I can also confirm that the ET box set is NOT bilingual, but the regular versions are.

The only difference between the US and Canadian versions will be a French DD2.0 track instead of an English DD2.0 on the US

I'd avoid the Canadian version then, if you don't have a 5.1 set up. You might want the 2.0 english track.
Hi,
Could someone tell me please exactly how long bilingual DVD covers have been around in Canada? Has it only started this year or something?
Thanks.
Started this year...

They did that with Belle de Jour as well :p
Also, one side of the sleeve has English on the left and French on the right; the flip side has French on the left and English on the right. Where's the sense in that? And Roger Eberts' quote "Sexy!" is translated as.... "Sexy!"
