Question:
This film had only just started and I was emotionally effected.
A lady and old man were dictating letters....(I won't spoil it). Were they really acting?
I've never seen such powerful pieces delivered to camera with such an effect.
I'd have given the Oscar to this film for these first 20 seconds alone.
Great isn't it.
The letters the woman is writing were actually people milling around the station and asked for letters to be written for them. So in many ways that wasn't acting, but all natural.
One of my favourite foreign films for many a year.
Yes, this is a fantastic film, I adore it :)
Behind the Sun is better IMHO, although it loses a lot on DVD compared to the cinema.
It's a shame that those are the only 2 Salles films on decent DVDs - the other one (can't remember the titles) is P&S only.

So could anyone recommend the best dvd version of central station then please? I would like an anamorphic transfer if possible (is the R2 anamorphic?).
I must say, it didn't strike me as anything particularly wonderful when I saw it at the cinema a couple of years ago. Passable, but oh-so-obvious.

I've just noticed that the R2 copy of Central Station is relatively cheap at Choices Direct (£8.50) and Play (£8.99).
Can anyone give me any feedback on this disk, e.g. is it an anamorphic transfer?
Are better versions available in Brasil or other Portugeuse speaking countries?
