Are X-Files Box Sets (R2) due for reissue soon??
Question:

I've been trying to buy Season 2 and 3 of the X-Files (I missed out originally) and have found they are out of print with most suppliers. I’ve had an order pending for over a month with Play for Season 2 and have noticed that another supplier (can’t remember which) states the early box sets are due for reissue when Season 5 is released.
I have rung FOX who were very secretive, saying, "there may be a reissue soon", but could not confirm.
Can anyone confirm if they box sets are being reissued? If so, when will it happen and will they be a straight reprint of the originals?

Answers:

I'm not sure about the re-issues but I found out the R4 release is also encoded for R2 so I ordered these instead.
The packaging looks the same and the only difference is there is an australian certificate instead of the bbfc one.

Beware, the packaging is a lot more flimsy on the region 4's. It looks similar but i personally didn't like it.
just my opinion though :D

Season 2 is in stock at Amazon

Thanks BigH.
I ordered from them last week, but the set they sent had clearly been opended and then resealed. The cover looked as if it had been kicked around their warehouse!!!

I have Season 1 and 2 on R2 and Season 3 and 4 on R4 and they are as good as each other I think. The only difference is the clasp in the middle holding the discs is a little different. I haven't found anything wrong with them at all and they are still available as far as I know and play on R2 players.

Maybe they can reissue them with a reasonable RRP - £90 is rediculous money:mad: I bought seasons 1 and 2 on Region 1 back in the good old days of Reel.com when they were affordable but I've been waiting ever since for seaon 3 onwards to at least be in a sale. 24 has a similar running time to an X Files Season but it's RRP was half the price at £45 and is widely available for £35.

HOLD on to you're horses :p
The X-files R2 season boxsets are all limited editions
Just have a look at the side of the box you will see a number on it.
Thats the print number. Season 1 and 2 are getting harder to find since there are less copies availbale.
A re-issue will be the exact same in term of contents (or so i hope it to be) the only diffrence will be that these new re-issue boxes will just not be limited editions thats all.
P.S i ordered season 2 from play in August and it came in a week i guess i must have taken one of the last few they had :norty: :)

How much are the Season 1 boxsets worth - I have a couple ;)

You can still pick them up in some shops. There's a place in Brighton that sells new and used DVDs and CDs, and they had a few sets of all four X-Files series (new and sealed) behind the counter, alst time I was there.
All at £59.99 too, which ain't a bad price :)

Not so limited.
The first batch gets numbered, all further batches get numbered as 00000.
Fox discontinues the previous seasons between releases and then reissues them (exactly the same as the previous release) when the next season is released. The bigger stores are normally able to keep selling them due to them have more space for stock, where as smaller stores sell out and have to wait until they are reissued.

I would go for the R1 release of season 3 as the R2 release has a few technical flaws: The subs and audio can't be changed during play also all the menu animations are unskipable
Maybe not that big a deal but still annoying especially since R1 does not suffer from these problems

I have Season 3 on order fom Play. I queried how long it was taking to get stock, and after they spoke with the distributors, they told me that the sets are beig re-released on the 14th to co-incide with the release of Season 5.
So, I should get my boxset soon!
Hope this helps,
Chaz

I just got the second series of the x files from this company and I thought it was fine. The packaging is better than what I had for region 2 series one. It is from an australian company and was quite cheap.

I had quite a few Series 1 sets which I passed on - not for profit may I add - when HMV were selling them for £29.99? (or was it £19.99 - oh, that was Hourami's Dixons special :smokin: :notworthy ) and the packaging certainly is inferior to the following series - 2,3,4, etc - releases.
The cardboard is thinner and prone to marking very easily and finding a mint copy of S1 is hard.
