Question:
<a href="http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000065BW7/qid=1034018892/sr=2-1/ref=sr_2_1/002-2788611-4798424"><b>Kurosawa DVD Collection (Individually Numbered Limited Edition) </b></a>
Anyone actually gone for it yet?
EDIT:
In fact if anyone has one they want rid of check <a href="http://Here.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=127628"><b>my dvd trade list</b></a> and/or <a href="http://www.dvdprofiler.com/mc.asp?alias=gpr79&sc=C&type=O&ls=T"><b>my dvd profiler</b></a> for something or how much?
Ohhhhhhh, first of heard of that, looks quite nice I'd like to replace my poor version of RAN too.
Yes, had mine on pre-order since May and received it just over a week ago ;)
BE WARNED..although the box is very nice it certainly wasn't designed with shipping in mind!...2 out the three discs had come loose out of their holder and had consequently got scratched up as the hubs just to say hold the discs, and my shipment fell foul of customs making me pay an additional fee of £15.95.
As for quality of the actual discs....nice informative documentary and the new version of 'Ran' whilst i think there is room for improvement is a substantial improvement over the previous Fox-Lorber release.
All in all after i had calmed down over the initial disappointment of paying the customs fee and receiving 'rattlers' i'm generally quite pleased!
i only got 1 rattler out of the three and it wasn't scratched at all, was also hit with the £16 customs fee, probably due to the inconspicuous packaging. 4x12x16 inches!
never seen the old version of ran but this one looked nice, not amazing but i find that with older japanese films anyway.
like the set a lot and it looks great on the shelf but it was damn expensive.
Ran's only 17 years old, it was released in 1985!!
i know but in my, admitedly reasonably limited, experience anything more than about 10 can look a bit dodgy. probably just down to dfferent techniques used that i'm not used to. for me the colour was strange, more reminiscent of something from the 60's rather than a mere 17 years ago.
Damn that extra £16 charge really doesn't make me want to grab this one in a hurry (considering it's already way overpriced IMHO, and I'm a huge fan of Kurosawa!) :(
But I am weak and will probably go for it eventually :D
I'm with GPR79, I do really want it but it is too expensive (I expect I'll have buckled and ordered it by the end of the day).
If anyone wants to replace their old Fox Lorber version of Ran, there is a new version now available on R2 for £9.99 at Play. Sounds like a much cheaper option.

How does the quality differ?
The R2 version is due from Warner UK but has been postponed to early January 2003
goddamn it! i just got a mail from amazon kindly informing me they've knocked $15 off te price about 2 weeks after release. i'm so glad i pre ordered it now.
Bump! In the unlikely event that someone has one they want rid of.....hey wait this isn't the Classifieds :norty:
I got my copy today - none of the discs had come loose surprisingly, given what people have been saying - and it is a damn fine set. Definitely my best Kurosawa purchase to date, and I'm glad I finally get to see Madadayo which I've been waiting to see for ages.
Now to just to order that new(ish) Kurosawa book, The Emperor And The Wolf and I'm completely Kurosawaed up (to coin a phrase!)
Did you have to pay customs mate?

Ta Garry :)
Bump in case anyone's fed up and wants rid :brickwall
Got mines this morning and was extremely pleased to see no rattlers in my box. £14.35 customs charge though :(
