Criterion announced last year that they were to do a 2 Disc Edition with a Commentry with DB. But nothing's been heard since.
:(

Answers:

I have the Canadian R1 version from DV Depot. Deleted scenes is pretty much the only extra.

Criterion had announced that they were to port over their original special edition laserdisc release which included the following:
*Scene specific audio commentary by Danny Boyle, John Hodge (I), Andrew MacDonald and Ewan McGregor
*Nine deleted scenes with commentary;
*Video interview with Irvine Welsh
*Liner notes by Irvine Welsh
However after nothing appeared for 6 months afterwards; an enquiry to Criterion revealed that they had been premature in announcing the release before the DVD release rights had been completed.
I'll bet that it will appear at some point though.

A bit of info on the new R2 over at R2 Project's BBFC section:
"Trainspotting" DVD audio commentary, All previous cuts waived 93m 44s
What was cut then?

Answers:

Needle injection scene

Answers:

Yeah just a few seconds of a needle piercing an arm. It was shown uncut on channel 4 but to be honest you'd never miss it.
Still nice to see the cut waived :)

I emailed Jon Mulvaney about this a few days ago by coincidence and he confirmed that Criterion DO NOT hold the DVd rights and categorically stated that it will not be released.

The deleted scenes recently classified by the BBFC appear to be the same as those on the Canadian version...

It's 'anally retentive' actually. :p
If I'd seen the uncut version first then most people would 'miss' it.

The Criterion LD is excellent, shame it wont be getting a DVD release.
The commentary track will not be the same.
