Question:
On the basis of it being one of these forum's most mentioned movies, I ordered this at the weekend (Korean version). I take it I'm in for a real treat -- what's so fantastic about it?
I've read that the English subs are a little too detailed, but presumably this isn't too much of a distraction?
Anyway, I look forward to it very much.
You'll not be disappointed. It's a long time since there was something fresh and original in the romantic comedy field, and there has certainly been nothing from the USA lately.
I've just reviewed the Korean release here (http://www.dvdtimes.co.uk/index.cgi?page=Review&id=1081&story=3694), which will give you plenty of information on what it is about and details of the peculiar subtitles. Thanks for giving me the opportunity to plug the review - more people should know about this film.

This is one of my fav movies of all time.
IT's in my top 5 movies and all that.
Actually it's best to know nothing about the movie and just sti back and watch it when it comes.
Plus the main female star ir very HOT :p
This film is great, I shall do my best to not hype it up as hype KILLS a film but it is bloody great!!! :D :)
It is without a doubt my favourite romantic comedy ever, the two leads are both extremely likeable and both give great performances.
Plus the girl is a bit screwed up which makes the film a lot more fun! :D
The film also doesn't really rely on gross out humour which a lot of these teen 'comedies' seem to so it makes a refreshing change (there are a few gross moments but it does not rely on this humour, it relies more on the situations the girl and guy get into to :) )
Great news, the americans are going to do a remake for all you people who can't read. see here (http://www.kfccinema.com/articles/royleeinterview/royinterview.html) . Note that this is not the only oriental movie to be improved by being remade with proper american starlets (none of these oriental types who all look the same anyway) and plots trimmed of unnecessary details :brickwall .
This movie certainly has its fans!
And what a coincidence, Noel, to have your great review today. However, it made me realise I've made a blunder -- it's the Hong Kong version that's on its way to me, not the Korean DC.
Would anyone be willing to provide a brief review of this disc for me, i.e. picture, subs, etc.? Cheers in advance.

I guessed this would happen sooner or later - I dread to think what a mess they'll make of it :oh-hum:

I've got the Hong Kong disk and it is fine. Nice anamoprhic picture and DTS Korean track. The subs are also not the type found on the Korean disk (ie they are not for the hard of hearing type subtitles) and are generally very good (with a few spelling mistakes here and there) :)
The HK version is also the Theatrical Cut whilst the Korean dvd is the directors cut. The directors cut is around 17 mins longer than the theatrical version.
These extra scenes are however on the first disk of the HK dvd in a section called 'Extra Scenes' and are english subtitled :)
I am very happy with the HK dvd, I am also going to buy the Korean dvd because I absolutely love the film and want the Directors Cut with the extra scenes incorporated into the film :)
The HK dvd however is a good buy :)
double post! :)
Thanks mr_woo, I'll sleep easy now!

Surely it's better than buying the rights to the film, ruining it and then releasing it?
The HK version is better IMHO.
Not only for the dts track but also because the subtitles are easier to read.
I have both versions of course because the extras are different and the Korean DC has more interviews etc with Jeon Ji-Hyun :norty:
The US remake will be ****.
Have you seen it?

"U.S. studios have recently begun buying up the rights to remake Korean films in Hollywood. Miramax purchased the rights to ``My Wife is a Gangster’’ last October for $950,000. Last February, Dreamworks SKG bought ``My Sassy Girl’’ for $750,000 and MGM paid $300,000 for ``Hi Dharma,’’ while Warner Brothers paid $500,000 for the rights to the romance ``A Love Story’’ just last month."

You could always buy the VCD version which is not region encoded. It's not the ideal solution, as you will not have all the extra material or the director's cut, but you can at least watch the film. It's available on VCD here on Coolashop (http://www.coolashop.com/webapp/commerce/command/ProductDisplay?prrfnbr=125981&prmenbr=7246&merchant_rn=7246&lang=1)

What are the odds that a region 2 only player without a multiregion hack will play VCDs given that a number of players require hacks to enable VCD play itself.
The best bet has to be to get a multi region player otherwise you'll get very frustrated on these forums given the amount of discussion about non region 2/0 dvds
I loved this film! one of my fave films by far, its the only love story ive ever believed in, and that chick is fit!!!!
He seems to have disappeared.

I'm using an Xbox to play DVDs at the moment  (dont hurt me)
I will eventually buy a proper multiregion player but i got made redundant so all my saved money is precious until i find a new job!
Guess this DVD will have to wait along with a few others :)
Get DVD region X...
