Question:
Has this now been re-released, saw two differing covers for it whilst having a gander in HMV, one had a pic with 24 the other was all black with just the 24 wording.
HMV did have their own 'exclusive' packaging (a black slip case I believe) when the set was first released.
Thats an "HMV Exclusive" cover.
This newsbreak has been brought to you from the West Coast of the other continent. ;)
Damn you locals are faster!
this re-release of 24! is it that of the series shown on bbc UNCUT or still the US version???
That black slip case rocks!!! :rocker:
the discs are exactly the same, its just the HMV exclusive packaging which is different
I thought it was being rereleased on the 14th of October - sites like 101cd removed their stock when the cock-ups came to light and changed it to a preorder
Oh, Thanks guys, I was in HMV for quite a while trying to determine which maybe newer.
Surely the discs can not be the same! the whole point of them to take the 24 series of the shelfs was to correct the error they made by releasing the US version!!
If they are the same, what was the whole point of them taken them of the shelfs it the first place????
If it's reappeared having been absent from the shelves at HMV for a while you could assume it's the re-issue.
Chances are though it's not the re-issue, that's not due until the 14th.
If you do buy and find the discs are the US version, you are within your rights to take it back as the set was recalled (regardles of what Fox "offically" like to tell their customers!)
If you need to know what scenes to check there are plenty of spoilers in other threads.
I spoke to Play about this a couple of weeks ago and they said word had come from Fox that the re-stocks of the sets would not contain the revised discs. The only way to get these would be to buy the defective set, mail in 5&6 and wait for replacements. Both they and I were/are astonished at their handling of this. If this has changed since a fortnight ago then someone please let us know.
Just recieved a Letter from Fox today about the Reissue:
basically they are making us wait until End of october for the new Disks, with possibilities of delays if I read the letter right, dont have the letter at hand at the moment but will post it once I get home.
but WHY remove ALL the sets from sale in ALL the stores if they are not repacing the discs?
Has anyone noticed a single DVD boxset in the shops in the last month? I haven't! Plenty of VHS sets though!
Alright, so I got a R1 boxset, I then have these "US versions" of episodes then? What's the difference and would I need to get a reissued R2 set?
And what is the address you send the 'defective' discs too again?
On R2 project I posted a topic about this, and Someone replied:

Yes, they will definitely be the same as the episodes shown on the BBC. This is from an official Fox source.
Interesting...
Wow what a series, I finally sat down to watch the first episode, that was 5 hours ago, I couldn't pull myself away till 6:00:00am, so I watched through the first 6 episodes in a row  Never have I done that before with any series, even Sopranos. They're all great but after an episode or occasionally 2, it's enough and I can watch another the next day or in a couple, but with '24', it's such a great intense flowing continuing storyline that I just gotta watch more and more to find out what's gona happen next.
Now I've managed to stop and put the other 18 hours for later, but it's just incredible.
It's the first time I'm watching of course but what's all the fuss over American version being put on DVD, it seemed great :smokin:
The American episodes were anywhere between 5 and 90 seconds shorter than those aired on the BBC, mainly because of fitting in more adverts, but also because of stricter tv laws in America which meant certain things were cut. Fox denies the cuts were this heavy and it only amounted to 90 seconds in total over the last two discs/eight hours. However people who'd compared the VHS (BBC episodes) and R2 DVD (US Episodes) submitted to the BBFC found major time differences, mainly over the last 12 hours. Some people will argue that the cuts don't make any difference and if you haven't seen it already then it won't matter, but others, including myself, believe there are a few cut scenes that make a significant difference and one which has a large impact on the finale.
