Question:
In stead of throwing away my little mini Littlewoods Xmas Catalogue I got in the post yesterday I decided to have a look at it.
They had 2 dvd boxsets that really caught my eye, one was a best of Python (from there TV show & not any of the films) 3 disc boxset, & even better was a 4 (I think it was 4) dvd disc Laurel and Hardy boxset that was NOT the disc silent boxset that was out in March this year. I have left the leaflet at home so I have not got the exact details here but, I have done a search at Amazon, Play, & Streets but have come up with no info on these.
Can anybody help as these could be must have Xmas presents for myself:rocker:
Same here. Laurel and Hardy used to be shown regularly during the kids school holidays at Christmas and summer. A box set would be GREAT! :rocker: Well spotted.
there are a few l&h discs in the hmv sale for £10 each, ,I picked up the music box and way out west! I would assume the box set will be their last 4 or 5 films (mgm i think)...
python coulkd be the video thing that was released a while ago (worth checking the cat. again)

Maybe not on R2 but I am sure you can get every python episode ever made on R1.
yeah sorry should have pointed that out (i have a few) R1 Python DVDs well worth getting as far as i'm concerned, but would like a R2 one as i heard that it may be cut.
As far as I can tell the US Python discs are encoded R0 so all you R2 only people can buy them....
(I might be selling my complete collection v. soon so keep an eye on the classifieds :))

There are lower prices down to about £80 ish but they aren't customs free...

Yep, i agree with Solidstate, this looks like a collection of their very best stuff - really good shorts like The Music Box, Towed in a Hole, Tit for Tat, Be Big etc plus some full length features like Way Out West & Swiss Miss as well.
This is really good news, as L&H have not been served well by the early releases of their stuff that was often made up of the later, poorer films.
Now the question is, how is it going to look and sound? Poor source material and bad encoding would be a sad waste of an opportunity. Do we know the company that's releasing it?
Done a bit of hunting and found this picture of the box on the littlewoods site (obvious place to look really - especially as this is where New mentioned he'd seen it (doh!).

I’d definitely want confirmation that the DVD has all the titles the VHS set does before ordering. Having some difficulty imagining them selling a VHS set for 3 times the price of the DVDs.
I have to admit looking at the web site it looks like the dvd box set does not have the same as the video set, but the printed cataolge has the full list above & then the option to buy the dvd or video set.
I think we need to wait for another site to list the dvd boxset.

That sounds more like a repackaging of the already available DVD's from Vision Video/Universal.

This set will be a repackaging of 10 Kinowelt L&H DVD's for only 99 Euro (individually they cost around 20 Euro). The Kinowelt DVD's have great picture quality and the original English language tracks.

Suspect I have the 'VHS set' already.
Bought 'The Laurel and Hardy Collection' individually before I had a DVD player though, so I'm excused. Haven't counted, but thought it was more than 20 tapes though? Great stuff.
Be absolutely amazed if the DVD set mentioned here is anything like as comprehensive - squashed on to four disks for £60? Get outta town. I'd almost feel guilty if it was that cheap ;)
I'm hanging on to my VHS until it's proved otherwise. Reckon it's the handful of feature films listed myself.
The Outer Limits 4 disc set contained over 27 hours of episodes, so putting 20 VHS tapes onto 4 dvd discs seems entirely feasible :)
...the VHS tapes were always a bloody rip off anyway!
