Luckily I'll only be buying it as a Chrissy present for my Dad so if the R2 comes in the tin I'll go for that - if not then R4 for me.
Of course that could all change dependent on the amount of footage that is cut (if any) from the R2/R4 versions as per the BBC2 showings .... this is fun isn't it :D

Why is everyone so surprised? The R2 version was never down to have a DTS track, I posted the specs on my site (NOT a shamless plug ;)) a couple of weeks ago and there was no mention of a DTS soundtrack then.....
I simply cannot understand this.
If the DTS track is anything like the Saving Private Ryan DTS version then it will be superb.
I really hope the R4 is still getting DTS otherwise its off to R1 land.
R4 will have DTS (according to the R4 suppliers who have this listed at the moment). I just ordered mine from Chaos for approx £31. The cheapest R2 listed on dvdpricecheck is £44 from Splash.
I can see no justification for buying R2 (even with DTS) unless you don't have a multi-region player and the R4 is not dual encoded.

Given that R2 usually uses the same masters as R4, it does not auger well for R4. I will watch the situation with interest.

But therein lies the source of more confusion as all too frequently, and thank goodness on occasions, there's important differences within the European R2 area, e.g. Buffy S3 was cut in the UK, whereas it wasn't in France (from which the R4 master was taken). Given all the R4 retailers are listing BOB as having the DTS track, it may well be coming from say the French master and not the UK one, which is good for us if R4 discs are an option.
I would have thought this was much better suited to the DVD forum since so many would be interested and so few come to this forum.

Indeed the press release quotes R4 as having DTS (and I have my fingers crossed that it is not a stuff up in the press release), but I feel that they may have based the press release on the R2 version...
However, it must be borne in mind that the first thing that usually goes when space on a disc becomes an issue is the DTS track.
Well i think we will just have to wait for a confirmation about DTS on the R4.
Hopefully there will be a review on Michael D's R4 site sometime in the not too distant future.
I too have fingers crossed that DTS is included on the R4 otherwise it will have to be the R1.
I think the no DTS option is too great a sacrifice to make in this instance.

Not as good Pic Quality but DTS.
(ntsc lookes very shimmery on mine) Think it could be DD5.1 and PAL for me.
