Question:
Copied this from the HKL website, as a novice, can someone shed some light on these titles, because I haven't heard of any bar Project A 2 and Young Master? Still no news on Drunken Master and Snake in the Eagle's Shadow Platinum Editions:
December 2002- The Young Master
January 2003- Project A (Part 2)
February 2003- Dragon From Russia
February 2003- Bichunmoo (2 Disc Special Edition)
March 2003- Crime Story
The platinum editions have been canned due to poor sales. You're just going to get 'special editions' from now on.

I had heard that as well.
My question is will still get Drunken Master and Snake in Eagle Shadow in correct OAR 2.35 and correct language Cantonese ?
Have not bought these as HKL were supposed to be reissuing them.

I hope they are still coming out cause I just sold both of mine.
HKL still intend to re-release SITES & DM & they have so far made no official statement about whether all future platinum titles have been cancelled, so we still might see the odd one popping up in their schedule.
I thought The Killer was being released as a platinum title?
What about Odd Couple, Knockabout, Warriors Two, Swordsman, Secret Rivals? http://www.btinternet.com/~andycz/bawling.gif

Has been announced as 1 disk for next month.
Hope they dont copy Tartan and then have loads of reissues with later Platinum. This is probably their most known title to the general public so would want to get their moneys worth.
Anyway now will not buy any HKL title until its reduced to £9.99 or less, after recent titles reduced in price after a couple of months no more at full price.

Unfortunately not - ironic really as this would have been their biggest selling Platinum edition without a doubt! :p

I don't know about the others, but Secret Rivals may take a while. Along with others like Snuff Bottle Connection, it's owned by Seasonal Pictures. Having recently acquired the rights to the Seasonal catalogue, HKL took a trip to Seasonal's archives. But the original film elements of these movies (and more) were found in such bad condition that it seems like other sources will have to be found.
And as for Drunken Master and SITES, I'd love to see any new HKL disc, Platinum or no, of these two with their original ratios and soundtracks intact. But what about the cropped Legend of a Fighter? Surely this deserves a re-release too?
crime story is a cop drama with jackie chan, it is very good and kinda like the police story movies but alot more serious
If I'm not mistaken, DRAGON FROM RUSSIA is loosely based on Crying Freeman. I think there is a scene similar to the manga, where the asassin runs around in a mask, but in London's ChinaTown. Or maybe, I'm thinking of a completely different movie...
Bichunmoo is a period Korean movie. Never seen it. I held off buying the Korean edition as the extra's are not subtitled. I'm not sure whether HKL will put the deleted scenes back in. The Korean theatrical version was cut to shorten the length, which later also became the DVD version.
My 2 pence.
Bought Dragon from Russia a many years ago on video, might have bought it from Eastern Heroes in Camden Town (?)- remember a very good fight in a train carriage - I will be getting this.
Hope Crime story is the version containing more fights - I seem to remember that a scene in the police station is missing a minute or so of punch ups on one version - Jackie can throw a lot of punches in a minute (the video's in the loft along with all of my other 200+ Hong Kong films so I can't be bothered checking) - (blame the missus) - Any way Crime Story is a HK classic - must buy.
Bichunmoo - Already got this on DVD - and I know a lot of people got giddy and said ooh theres a new two disc special edition out must get it...etc etc.. - but I thought it was CRAP. Sorry - but it bored me rigid - very stagey like a bad TV drama. I am a fan of Korean cinema too (love Shiri) - IMHO this sucks ass - seriously avoid.
Project A part 2 is an ignored classic - in a proper widescreen cantonese print it will be recognised for the masterpiece it is. In 4:3 a lot of the gags are lost - especially during the handcuffed chase.
Young Master - Always disappointed by this for some reason - but I always buy it anyway (I was a JC completest on VHS and now am replacing them on DVD). Maybe one day I will enjoy it as much as everyone else. HKL release is the best chance of this happening.

Arch said here about the poor sales of Platinums. That's actually not true.
Platinums require heavy investment into the production of the original extras.
This pushes the costs of the discs upto the £24.99 price bracket. However retailers think that 2-Disc SE's should be £19.99 (ala Fox etc).
Hence they have become uneconomical to produce. Its all about retailers and retailer space sadly.
Jenz.
Young Master was a bit crap IMO, its dated and has crap humour. :(
it is as dated as any old school comedy. The action - especially the fight v the police officers - is still excellent, and a par above any American or HK hack job today...
