Papillon DTS and ET deluxe, from France
Question:

Just got an e-mail from www.amazon.fr about a 2 disc set of Papillon which has French and English DTS and French and English DD5.1. A second disc just for a 12-minute featurette and a trailer seems a bit much though.

Also noticed the deluxe 3-disc version of ET is being released in France with the new version on disc one, extras on disc two and the original cut on disc three. Not too bad at 40 euros.

I was in Calais last Saturday and noticed a couple of nice sets. The recent Oceans 11 DVD was being packaged as a box set with a senitype image and a few other bits for around £27, plus the 4-disc Pearl Harbor set in a leather look zip case (with digicase style holders inside, but no English DTS track) for around £25. Lots of Sleeping Beauty 2-disc editions too (about £20). Thought about the latter and might pick it up when I go back at the end of October.

This film really needs an SE - the current release is quite poor.
It's anamorphic, but the picture quality is not very good and the sound is fairly bad.
Not much in the way of extras - especially the R1.
The music in the film is terrific though.

Thank you ccparkhill, I was becoming resigned to blowing £40 on that R1 ET boxed set to get the original version. You're a good man and you will be rewarded in heaven.

nice spot ccparkhill, I'd like to echo Ol' Blue Eyes' sentiments although unlike him I refuse to pay £40 for the R1 and was going to do without, at £28 the delux set is a bit more palatable.

The R1 set was available for around £26 from DVD Soon when it first came up for pre-order. You can usually count on the French to get a decent edition if the UK product isn't up to scratch. :)

I was just glancing round DVDZone2.com and spotted some other interesting stuff you can get across the channel but not here, like MGM special editions of Blue Velvet and Conan The Destroyer (2 commentaries on that one) and a Warner release of John Sayles's Lone Star. All of those should be identical to a UK R2 release except the packaging.

Who would have thought it, me baptised and saved by the forums!
If you buy Papillon DTS and ET Deluxe together from www.amazon.fr, you save a mighty 0 Euros!
I wonder if there will be forced subs? Mind you, I got my French 3-disc copy of The Man Who Wasn't There with forced subs and I can turn them off using a sneaky hack on my Pioneer 535.
