Dumb And Dumber WTF?
Question:

Not the film but the aspect ratio!!!!!
I have the R2 release and it says on the box in big letters...
A WIDESCREEEN PRESENTATION
The back of the box says 1:1.85,
yet the film is blatantly fullscreen,
in fact, it's so bad the credits at the start are clipped !!!

Is it true that the dvd version is cut too?
If so ..can you tell me where..cos
I was after this but might just stick to the tape for now.

Answers:

i've got the r1 and it's definitely widescreen. dunno if it's cut though. the dvdreviewer review says it's widescreen, non-anamorphic 1.85:1.

Answers:

according to Rewind, yes, all regions are cut. I must admit that I didn't know that! I have the R1 version cos I remember at the time knowing that ours was crap but there was nowt wrong with the R1 - looks like I was wrong!
Mind you, Rewind's page says nothing about the R2 being P&S...

I've just tried my copy and it definitely plays in widsscreen with my DVD tv output set to "4:3 (letterbox)", however if I change the setup to "4:3(pan & scan)" I get a fullscreen picture, this must be what is happening on yours.
AFAIK the scene with the Indians singing in the dogmobile is cut in the R2 for some odd reason.

AFAIK, the R2 DVD has at least one scene (other than the one mentioned by stephen) trimmed that is in the UK VHS, and R1 DVD. Can't remember exactly what off-hand though.
Sounds like an excuse to rewatch the film
Chris.

As far as I can figure out my tv only has the following settings;
Standard
Reduced
Zoom A
Zomm B
No matter what setting the picture is still cropped both L/H/S
and R/H/S....it's so bad the intro title say it was
rected by eter Farrelly

it's not the tv setting it's the dvd player setting. on the set up menu it should ask you what kind of tv you have
the options should be
16:9 widescreen
4:3 letterbox
4:3 pan and scan
if the player is set to the last of these it can sometimes create a pan and scan version on non anamorphic stuff by zooming in on its own. set it to 4:3 letterbox and you should be laughing.

i havent seen film in a while, but the cut is as follows
after they pick up the gangster fella in the van they sing "mockingbird" song. Our heros then pick up the family by the side of the road and they sing another chorus of "mockingbird
On the region 2 apparently the scene with picking up the family and them singing "mockingbird" has been totally removed.
There was no swearing or violence, so im really not sure why this would have been cut but to the best of my knowledge it just isnt in the region 2 version
