J Ross quote
Question:

Sadly, the marketing folk for The Deep End (DVD: Swinton etc) have succumbed and used a quote by Mr Woss on the back cover.
I guess this isn't his first appearence, but it is the first I have seen and has somewhat depressed me.
I hope no-one has kept score of used quotes by him vs his bro, but if they have... care to share?

there's one on the first release of battle royale in this country by Tartan if i remember correclty

it would appear that they are trying to mis-market it to make it appeal to a mainstream 'blockbusters' audience, which it clearly is not made for.
i recommend trying to pick up the region one that has a very good commentary and sundance-channel anatomy of a scene on it. i got it on ebay for £6.50 and other people who bought under a mainstream-thriller misconception seem to be rather keen to get rid of it, so the bargain could be there for others to take advantage of too. good luck

Provided it doesn't put its natural audience off, I don't see the problem with that - just as I didn't see the problem with marketing a reissue of Bunuel's Belle de Jour as "the Rolls-Royce of sex films", especially as the latter went on to break the all-time house record at the cinema I used to manage. If a few raincoat wearers ended up watching something rather more cerebral and sophisticated than they were expecting - well, tough: they've already bought their ticket!
In any case, Jonathan Ross is far more clued-up about films than his brother, and I wouldn't be the least bit repelled by a quote from him. No-one who can write an in-depth and indeed positive review of something called The Enema Bandit can exactly be accused of playing safe!

I remember a Jonathan Ross quote on the front of Happiness (on VHS  anyway)

Yeah, that same book/show turned me on to Mexican Wrestler Horror Movies, Russ Meyer and the like. I'd actually like to see that re-run. Paramount Comedy Channel maybe?

I think this was actually a bet between him and a mate as to who could get a quote printed on a cover first, or something.

I agree, Jonathan is a true movie fan and his movie knowlege is probably second only to that of Forry Ackerman. He is a rare type of film critic in that he cannot be "brought" by the film companies.
As for the Batman Forever quote, don't forget that it is common practice for the companies to edit reviewers remarks to show their product in a positivelight. Hence his remark was possibly "One of the greatest movies ever made...I don't think so!

Plus judging from the times I've bumped into him at The Cinema Store, he's a top bloke.

Mr Jonathan Ross has a quote on the box of this weeks 'Brotherhood of the wolf'. I don't believe he has a quote on the 'Pearl Harbour' box.
