Question:
I've just watched Free Enterprise again on DVD, first of all what a great special edition it is. A commentary, over an hour long doc, William Shatner's rap No Tears for Caesar music video, loads of deleted scenes with textual explanation, including one at the LaserBlazer in LA, screentests, fact track, term and references explanations for the "casual viewer", etc.
Everyone who's a comic book/laserdisc/dvd/movie/pop culture/trekker geek must see it, pure enjoyment.
It's infinitely quotable, like after the group gets thrown out of a Wrath of Khan 70mm showing in Hollywood Galaxy theater, one of them recommends "what now... watch it on disc?" the only girl with them says "only if you have the pan & scan version" and everyone goes "oooh my goood!"
Shatner is great playing mostly himself and the film is chock full of geeky references, the whole dialogue almost completely consists of it. I'm sure almost everyone will find a scene resembling a situation in their own life, it's very perceptive. :dork:
Recommendation seconded; very enjoyable, and seemed to have been written directly about me and my friends even though we live several thousand miles away.
R2 is £7.99 at play.com
OH MY GOD!
I am both these characters!!!!!!!
"Mark (Eric McCormack), in a delightful spin on 'Logan's Run', is agonising about reaching his 30th birthday before he has achieved anything much at all, while his slacker pal Robert (Rafer Wiegel) neglects his daytime editing job to woo a comic-reading, nerdy yet totally babelicious wish-fulfilment girlfriend."
HELP! :dork:
(well actually, substitute the "comic-reading, nerdy yet totally babelicious wish-fulfilment girlfriend" for a "comic-reading, nerdy yet buff dude" and that's moi! plus the whole "agonising about reaching his 30th birthday before he has achieved anything much at all"...)
Excellent movie ..... the Shatner dream sequence at the beginning is pure class :D
Come on guys - it's a film where Shatner parodies himself; of course it's a classic.
For more Shatner goodness, may I recommend Ben Folds' "Fear of Pop Vol 1" album where the **** sings a beautiful (really) love song
This is one of my favourite comedies and like Lenny Nero said it's an awesome DVD. I could never understand why Kevin Smith films got all the praise and this was virtually ignored (I love K S's films as well).
Is the DVD anamorphic?

The R2 version is :)
Totally agree with everyone, top film, not just because they find Bill Shatner in the porn section at the book store!! Classic.
A very funny movie. Have to watch it again. :D
Very funny, I agree
I Had to chuckle hard at
"Where are you going?"
"Looks like I'm going nowhere"
"Don't you ********* quote Star Wars at me!"

OVERALL : Draw - The R2 does have an anamorphic transfer and a couple of additional extras, but visitor Faustbos (who owns both discs) has reported that the soundtrack on the R2 is 'horrible' and that there are some lip synch problems on it - you have been warned!
Given the above from dvdcompare would you say the problems with the R2 make the R1 the version to get or is it not that bad ?

The only lip synch problems I noticed were when I was playing the commentary track - the background audio from the film doesn't match up in a few scenes IIRC - other than that it sounds fine for a low budget movie.
The sound overall is bad, even for a dialogue driven movie, and during Shatner's rap there are some a bit out of synch parts because of too many cuts and various takes. Thats on R1 version.

Robert: "He said that Han Solo was cooler than Captain Kirk!"
William Shatner: "Kick the little *********'s ass."
:notworthy :rocker: :D
