First and Why?
Question:

Ok, kinda been done before...
What was your first DVD, and why did you buy it on DVD and not VHS. And why choose that particular film to be your first DVD?

Answers:

It was the Flipper version of Face/Off, and I bought it on DVD not VHS because I had just bought a DVD player and I wanted something to try it out with - which I would have thought would be the reason for most peoples first DVD. There wasn't much of a choice when I bought my player in 1998 and it was about the only one I knew anything about when I was looking.

Answers:

My first was The Corrs :notworthy - Live At The Royal Albert Hall - because I just had to have it. If you hadn't guessed they are my favorite band.
My first movie was Enemy Of The State - as said above there wasn't many DVDs around and I had seen this film at the pictures and quite enjoyed it.

Answers:

Ghostbusters was my first DVD.
As for not buying the VHS, I'd already taped it off the telly.
Loved the film, so though I'd love the DVD - how right I was.

The Beyond, i didn't have a player at the time, but couldn't pass up the chance to buy an uncut version(this was a couple of years before theR2 one came out). Also i didn't have a credit card or access to the internet at the time, so i didn't know if i would see it for sale again. :)

Answers:

The Straight Story because it is a magical wondeful film and I had just bought my DVD player, so it kind of made sense to buy a DVD.

Leon: The Professional (Uncut International Version, R1) It's one of my favourite films of all time and I really wanted to see the uncut version. I ordered it two weeks before I got my player and the rest is very expensive history!

I bought a Creative Encore 2x DVD-ROM drive bundle for my pc and there wasn’t much available so I picked up Jumanji R2.
I sold Jumanji and the encore years ago, I guess my collection really started with The original R2 releases of The Fugitive, Batman, The Rock (flipper) and Goldeneye

Answers:

My first DVD was, er, Batman & Robin. Not out of choice, it was included free in the box of my Philips DVD player. It was also included free in the box when I sold that DVD player a year later (still unwatched).
The first DVD I bought was The Matrix.

"This is Spinal Tap" - a couple of weeks before I got my DVD player...I'd already got the VHS but it's my favourite film ever, so...

Answers:

Twelve Monkeys R2 because I needed a disc to check out my player and it was only £9.99 which seemed a bargain as the VHS with the Hamster Factor film included cost more.
I have since upgraded to R1 with commentary

My first was Austin Powers 2. I bought it on DVD (R1) because it hadn't come out on VHS over here.

Answers:

The original release of A Bug's Life (R2), had just ordered my player and decided I'd probably need something to play on it when it turned up. Chose this title as it had just come out and I'm a bit of a Pixar fan and knew I'd get lots viewings out of it so didn't mind paying the high street price (although I did get 10% staff discount ;) ).

Answers:

Damn HMV sales, I bought Grosse Pointe Blank, Batman, Leon, and Contact. All because they were cheap at the time (1999) and IMHO all good films. I was thinking about buying a player, so I bought the DVDs to give me the excuse to get one.
My credit card and bank balance has never forgiven me since...
