Even though Eamonn's review is very well written, I have to disagree with his review of Behind Enemy Lines. I thought his review was very harsh (especially the bit about Sky News). It's a great mindless action flick. When I saw this for the first time I didn't know what to expect and was pleasantly surprised.
I have never seen an ejection sequence like that in any other film, very imaginative. This scene really makes the film as well as the exciting final shoot-out. The surround sound is excellent in the film, especially during the F18 sequence when the afterburner sounds different from inside the cockpit.
OK the plot isn't the best but the action scenes are very well done and is why I found it entertaining. I think the film probably deserves 8/10. Some nice extras on the disc too.
It should be worth noting the colour of the parachutes that the pilots used. It clearly shows a lot of pride has gone into the making of this film for first time director John Moore. I believe he made advertisements for Eircom and just got a phone call from Fox to make this film. I believe his next project is a remake of Flight of the Phoenix.
Its a well directed film that deserves more than 5/10. It's no classic but an entertaining waste of time. 7/10.
It is quite similar to Gene Hackmans Bat*21 (http://us.imdb.com/Title?0094712).
I actually agree with you, in general, and I thought the review was along the same lines. The director's commentary does indicate that they wanted it to be taken a bit more seriously than it was but were content to admit it was a straight action film. Wilson isn't bad, Hackman does Hackman-In-Charge role but it looks and sounds fantastic. The shooting down and ejection sequence is superb, admittedly, but I just thought, in general, the story, rather than the picture and audio, could have been handled better. The Serbs could have been given more character - the original title sequence would have helped - and were there moments in which Wilson appeared to be in real danger, it would have been more involving. I just never got the sense that Wilson wouldn't be ok at the end, which for a thriller, isn't very thrilling.
But it's a good action film and could well be an audio demo disc depending on your collection. So 5/10 for the film and higher scores for the Picture and Audio are fine with me.
The extras are good and my favourite bit is where John Moore and Paul Martin Smith criticise the critics for taking it too seriously. Ahem!
However, I am tired of News Corporation's sub-divisions appearing in Fox productions. I suspect most people in the US wonder what Sky News is though surely Fox News will be making more of an appearance now.

Indeed...very odd to see my name displayed so prominently. Makes me nervous...
Got to say, I enjoyed the first one. A disengage brain before watching kind of film but most entertaining. Amazed to see a sequel though, I imagine it will be the same story but set in Korea.
Nice Thread Necromancy there...
I quite enjoyed the original, but I imagine the sequel will be a diseased dog of a movie with PSone special effects and a cast of extras from Melrose Place.
Is Casper Van Dien available?
I haven't watched this film for ages, I bought the disc and quite enjoyed it but I do remember it for that last scene which surely contained some of the worst, most innacurate shooting by bad guys, since Commando.......
