Films that seem a lot longer than they actually are
Question:

My votes here go to:
The Man Who Wasn't There - It's under two hours long but it seems about 3
Bottle Rocket - Only 90 minutes but it seems twice as long
And yours?

Answers:

traffic .... havent actually got round to watching the last 3rd yet
the story moves far to slowly

Answers:

Yeah that's a good one. But I wouldn't call it slow. It's such an interesting film.

Answers:

The Searchers - half an hour shorter than The Good, The Bad & The Ugly, but it felt like half an hour longer.

Answers:

dungeons and dragoons, which is also quite possibly the worst film ever made.

Answers:

Guy Maddin's The Heart of the World, but I mean that as a compliment.
(It's only just over five minutes long, but crams in more than enough crazed invention and inspired ideas to fill a full-length feature)

Answers:

The longest film ever made is 'Random hearts' staring Harrision Ford.
I had to eat the South American rugby team in the cinema just to make it to the end of the film!

"Amadeus Director's Cut" appeared to last about three days. Not a single necessary addition. In fact, the film was overlong to begin with and could have done with shortening. It's still one of the very few Best Picture Oscar winners to be worthy of the award though and I don't begrudge Forman his director's Oscar either. He should have left well enough alone.
"Doctor Zhivago" is slow to the point of narcolepsy. So is "Ryan's Daughter", although that one does have the comedy yokels and John Mills' awful hamming to enliven it.
As for "Dances with Wolves", well you get the idea.

unbreakable, traffic and hannibal to name a few

Sat in cinema watching Heat. That seemed like an age and was a real 'bum number'!!
(Jonny G prepares for the flaming that saying something bad about Heat is bound to bring  )

I actually thought that "Behind Enemy Lines" started to drag a bit in the middle.
Also, "Titanic" was FAR too long for anyone's liking - ship sets sail, ship hits iceberg, ship sinks, the end.

I don't agree that it was too long to begin with (strangely enough). But, other than the first scene with Kenneth McMillan (a joy, and a great prelude to the next scene), I agree that the rest was probably surplus to requirements. Especially the stuff in the dressing room. Originally Salieri knows Mozza has 'had his darling girl' after their first exchange. Now he knows it after he gets it in writing!
I wasn't exactly disappointed. But I hope Forman hasn't done a George Lucas and taken the original form of a beloved classic out of circulation.

..."Lawrence Of Arabia"... 200-and-some minutes which seemed (to me! to me!) like that many days...
..."Dr. Zhivago"... oh God, YES!!!... thank you Mike...
..."The English Patient"
..."The Last Emperor" ditto
..."Titanic" ditto ditto
(...of course, in all fairness I should explain that the evening before I had watched the CC disc of "A Night To Remember" and the night before that I had watched a (shudder!) VHS tape of the 1953 "Titanic" - so perhaps I was waterlogged?...)...
...just plain overlong: "The Green Mile", "Meet Joe Black" (although Brad Pitt never looked lovelier!), "Apocalypse Now", and even more so "Apocalypse Now redux"...
..."Eyes Wide Shut" ad infinitum...
...to name just a very few...
(signed) Tired-Of-Watching-Movies-? (...perhaps I should read a book...)

I watched the CC Traffic last Sunday and although i knew it was long and i'd watched it before it sltill flew by for me. Such and interesting premise with great characters.
Longest for me has to be something like the 'Godfathers', great, great films but you know you've a heck of a lot of story to go through when you just start to watch them.

A.I. - What a total watse of time, would have been over long at 20 mins
In fact, this movie is so long, I might still be there and the last 12 months could just have been a fantasy to kill time before the titles.
"Oh thank God, he's finally found the bloody fairy, surely it must be over now?"

It wasn't thin enough.

No flaming but I sat thorugh Heat at the cinema and found the time whizzed by because of the sheer wuality of the film.
One film that was far too long was Mr Holland's Opus. I nearly walked out but didn't beacuse I was with a friend. Sadly after it had left she told me she wanted to wlk out but didn't beacue I was with her. ARRGHHH

We got the "Dumb-ass version!" If ever a film belaboured the point this was it. It made Zardoz look like an exercise in narrative economy.
The one film I've seen this year that really dragged, i.e. the never ending decent in purgatory type drag, was Monsters' Ball. Like many films there's a great one in there trying to get out, as was the audience by the end of the movie.

I'd agree with Bottle Rocket and I would've sworn that Rushmore was well over 2 hours when its actually just 90 minutes long.

I've got to agree with you Jonny. Although when I tried watching it again at home, I found it flew by in no time.
I'd also like to add:
SW Episode II (Thats 23 hours of my life I'm never getting back)
Unforgiven
Anything with Kevin Costner (apart from JFK, 13 Days, and The Untouchables)

The Magnificent Ambersons seems about 2 1/2 hours, so I can well understand how it must have seemed like three or four films joined at the hip in its original 130-minute version.
All of Wes Anderson's films seem like eons longer than they actually are because the stories he tells are so intricate and concise, you're getting far more plot than you normally would in the same space of time.
Jackie Brown crawls by, but it's so suspensful and so much fun, it's one of the few films that lasts as long as you hope it will.

Lost in Space seemed to go on for ages due to the fact that it was utter crap.

Answers:

Braveheart
The English Patient
Heat
All seemed far, far too long when I saw them at the pictures. I'm willing to give Heat another go at home, but I'd sooner gnaw my own leg off than watch either of the other two again :/

The Blair Witch Project was about 80-odd minutes too long.
In fact, this is one film that should never have been made. I'm sure Myrick and co. thought they were being *new* and *exciting*, but I thought it was just utter drivel.
When the film finished I just sat and thought about all the worthwhile things I could have done during the film's duration instead of watching that pile of crap.
Oh well. C'est la vie.

I'm glad the film did something for you, but it did nothing for me. I really tried to dig it, but couldn't.
I just thought it was camcorder amateur hour myself.

Answers:

it was another one of those films that split people down the middle - I think you either loved it or hated it.
