Question:
Today I recieved a R1 DVD of Lord of the Rings from an eBay auction. What I want to know is have I been sold a pup.
The case looks ok and so does the sleeve, but there is no booklet inside and the artwork on the discs looks a little faded and blurry plus the second disc wont work on my pc but works fine on my Toshiba player.
Also as well as having a Dolby Digital 5.1 track it also has a DTS track, I've found no reference to this in any reviews and there are subtitles for Chinese,Bahasa,Thai languages.
Is this a genuine R1 DVD or a far east copy?
As far as I read from your post you have bought yourself a far east copy. I never heard of a region 1 DVD with Chinese,Bahasa or Thai languages
:(
Well if it has a DTS track then I doubt it is a true R1 disc, far as I know neither R1 or R2 has DTS...
A little more info,
The back cover looks quite genuine with the DTS track down in the features list, theres a region 1 logo, its rated PG-13 and says Manufactured in the USA also the item no. is N5542.
I've searched the internet but found nothing yet.
What is the running time of the film?

But picture & sound quality seem fine and all the extras are there plus I've got a DTS track.
Well if you didn't pay too much for it, I wouldn't worry too much if it is a boot leg, so long as the quality is good. As for the DTS track, do you have an Amp or decoder? If so, what does it say the sound format is in when you play the "DTS" track on the disc?
I suspect the DTS track you are listening to is actually DD but the bootleggers (Afterall that is what you own) mess about so the AMP reports DTS but it isn't :p
How much did you pay for it? :dork:

I don't have a DTS decoder but switching to the DTS track on my Toshiba DVD player displays the DTS logo. I paid £14.50 for the DVD on eBay.
is it anamorphic?

this is a worrying first for me, i've never come across an anamorphic bootleg before. seems they're getting more sophisticated by the day. i suppose another version of star wars is just around the corner.
could you tell us the name of the seller so i can check out what else he's got.
