Film Quiz - Free DVDs to be won this weekend! (NOW FINISHED)
Question:

I’m having problems punting some crappy discs in the Classifieds Forum. So… in a bid to get them the hell outta the house, here is a film quiz. Top prize is a disc of your choice from a less-than-stellar collection of a handful of my unwanted discs. :)
But don’t mention the answers on this thread, coz that just makes it easier for everyone else. Send to cnmcdade@hotmail.com (with your username) - I'll keep it up for the weekend. The winner doesn’t have to get all of the questions correct. All are films I like, none are that obscure (a few aren't exactly blockbusters I suppose), which may provide a small hint to some hard core movie forum regulars. In the event of a miniscule response, just two correct answers could net you a free disc! :)
Quotes…
1. ‘It’s better to have a gun and not need it than need a gun and not have it’
2. ‘I’d like to do a scene from the movie Raging Bull... “Did you ****** my wife?”... “How can you ask me that, I’m your brother! And you ask me that? Where do you get the balls big enough to ask me that?”’
3. ‘Dream much, Will?’
4. ‘Pink lemonade, laced with… lemonade’
5. ‘I got cancer of the prick’
6. ‘A lot of these broads you know… you just don’t know, you know? I mean a young woman in today's society, by the time she's 22, 23, you don't know where the ****** she's been!’
7. ‘Buy us some golf shoes. Otherwise we’ll never get out of this place alive!’
8. ‘Am I ‘K.’ in your book?’
9. ‘One little murder and I’m Jack The Ripper!’
10. ‘”How much is coffee?”
“It’s 53 cents”
“How much is tea?”
“53 cents”
“I’ll have tea”
Tie Breaker 1: What do the following films all have in common? Die Hard, A Clockwork Orange and Raising Arizona.
Tie Breaker 2: Who is the greatest working director?
The DVDs on offer aint great, including Survivor, The Cell, Postmortem (Charles Sheen), and the answer to Q1.

Answers:

well, good quiz, very generous of you, but with that selection of films to win i dont know whether I can be bothered to enter :p

Answers:

yeah, well, that's why I thought I better edit the post with that info! Don't want to disappoint anyone - just a bit of fun. :)
There are a few other discs though. And if anyone knocks me dead with over 10/12 then they might get a much wider choice.
McD, in love with Mandy Moore.

One little murder and you're Jack The Ripper!
Funny film BTW :D

Sheeeeeit!
I'll take your word for it (will check later).
We have a leader who has conquered half the quotes and BOTH the tie breakers.
a few clues for the other five qoutes...
One of the others (deliberately as low key as I could get with that film) is prolly known to Mr Woo.
One of the others predates The Godfather.
One of the others was written by David Mamet.
That's all.

a shocking 100% record on TB#2 so far!

Robby,
An astounding 3 out of 12. But your answers made me laugh out loud - great stuff, especially those educated guesses to #4 though #10. Feel free to post 'em when the quiz is finished.
The only wrong answer I'll confirm is that 'I got cancer of the prick' does not come from The Muppets Take Manhattan!

good quiz:clap:
answers on there way:rocker:

homerj - you're the first to get Q.10 right, but sadly you're still out of the medal positions.
Two joint winners so far - TimJBart and Shingster. Both on 7/12 and both with a keen eye on Survivor Series One. Possibly.

There's also a mint condition paperback novelization of Gladiator on offer! :)
2, 4 and 6 still remain unanswered. 7 is the figure to beat, or you have no chance of a DVD!
#2 is a personal fave and might be a tad less-than-well-known, although if you've seen it, you wouldn't forget the quote in a hurry.
#4 is a modern classic. Nuff said.
#6 is again not a blockbuster but a minorly popular 80's movie. I reckon MARKMAN would know it.

noooooooooooooooooooooooooo, I never watched survivior and I would consider this a punishment, not a prize!!

I can confirm that number 2 is incredibly easy if you've seen the film - you're right: it does rather stand out, doesn't it?

Answers:

Right - too many people are tied behind the lead two - and there are only so many DVDs. I've expanded the perhaps-too-difficult Q6. But unless anyone beats the two leaders, they get a disc each of their choice (hoho), and the rest might go on another quiz. I'll finish this one soon.
TimJBart gets first dibs as he answered first, gave no wrong answers and got the spelling of the world's greatest working director spot on. Then it's Shingster.
Apologies again for the crapness of the discs. Currently...
Survivor USA Series One R1 (quite good actually)
Postmortem R2 (Charlie Sheen in a Glaswegian serial killer flick!)
True Romance R2 (classic, fab transfer, no extras)
The Cell (New Line Platinum, plenty of extras, one magnificent scene)
Don't Touch The White Woman R1 (arty French flick with Catherine Denueve, the pick of the bunch in many ways, ex snapper)

What, you mean he even got the accent right on the 'S'? :D
(DISCLAIMER: This does not in any way represent an endorsement of McD's opinion, but I think I can guess what the "correct" answer is from his point of view!)

Not quite. But there was another spelling more appropriate for the most dominant personality on a jury.
All answers were accepted though. Except Paul Verhoeven, John Woo and Brian DePilfer. :)

woohoo I'd like to thank McD for offering me a free DVD! But which one to choose!?
It's either between True Romance or Don't Touch The White Woman, and I havent seen either. True Romance interests me as Tarantino wrote it, and McD likes it, but I am also interested in the art film...
can anyone tell me which to get?

Answers:

True Romance is gone to TimJBart. Enjoy!
Shingster,
Please choose from these four. :-)
Survivor USA Series One R1
Postmortem R2 (Charlie Sheen)
Don't Touch The White Woman R1 (French flick, Denueve)
EDIT: No longer a prob, Shingster has gone for summit else.

I sadly have to report that there was a fair amount of 'Buster Keaton' going on - almost everyone was it. Let that be a lesson to anybody else mad enough to do a film quote quiz.
Even our dear winner Mr Bart, I'm sad to say! Hasn't seen True Romance - but he still got the quote right! How 'bout that! :nono: ;)

Answers:

what does Buster Keaton mean?
and come on, I did pretty well to get both tie breakers...
if my sister tells me the answer to one i've got to put it down dont i?
but thanks for the comp, even if u do think i cheated my way to victory i still feel knowledgeable!

Buster Keaton - cheatin'. I was only joking though - although a few others have admitted to using a few sites and search engines. Tinkers!
And very well done with the tie breakers! More people got Beethoven than I'd have expected, and a few got Milos Forman. How did you know that one?
Thanks to the other dozen or so non-winning entrants. There might be a quote-free comp to get rid of the last disc (guaranteed to be really crap!) Stay tuned!
EDIT: to make up for removing a disc, I've added two quality VHS Kubrick titles!
Choose from...
Survivor USA Series One R1
Postmortem R2 (Charlie Sheen)
Don't Touch The White Woman R1 (French flick, Denueve)
Spartacus / Full Metal Jacket (both VHS)

I need all the good karma I can get! :)
True Romance is in the post, TJB.
Shingster - I'll send Survivor out to you this evening.
MattCapes - choose from one of the following, and let me know your address...
Postmortem R2 (Charlie Sheen - the nicest thing I can say about this abomination is that it comes in an Amaray!)*
Don't Touch The White Woman R1 (better film, worse packaging)
Spartacus / Full Metal Jacket (Kubrick!!! But, you know, in VHS!)
* For anyone wondering how I came to own such a title - I saw them film a scene in Glasgow about five years ago and was interested to see it. Not that interested - but at £4.33 @ Play, I took a chance. Dear oh dear! And the scene I saw filmed had been replaced at that!
