Question:
YAY!!!
And about time too :D
I borrowed the R1 DVD off a mate and was blown away - the extras aren't bad either!
This is a frighteningly original movie which I would recommend to anyone with an open mind who doesn't require all the answers handed to them on a plate to enjoy a film.
GO SEE ASAP
 <---longtime Donnie Darko fan
The R1 extras are great - My favourite is the Mad World video :D
The film is a truly unique experience and that song will haunt you long after the film has finished!
I watched this with the directors commentary on today - really explains a whole lot. And Jake Gylenhaal is very funny on it too.
Feels like a classic's be rereleased the R1 been out so long.
Sorry, what?
Edit: Wait, I gotcha ;)
Feels like a classic has been re-released, as the R1's been out for such a long time.
Mr Stanton in uncharacteristic Davester-style drunk post shocker! :shocker:
I agree with the sentiment though - I think I'll be visiting the cinema just to see the faces on the rest of the audience.
O.K i've had one or two lime cordials. :)
I hope it bombs! :brickwall :D
Who's gona watch it if everyone that wanted to got a DVD which costs less than a movie trip with a couple of people anyway.
People will watch it because, outside of forums like this, no-one has heard of Donnie Darko or knows anything about it. It's had no advance publicity through tv or in cinemas, and there has been next to nothing in the film mags.
Plus, a lot of people who do know about it won't have multi-region players and thus the available dvds won't be much use anyway.

You mean some people can live without a multi-region player??
Aaargh!! I just couldn't do it :shocker:
Lovin the Mad World music vid BTW
it's good that the release date is close to halloween anyway :)
i'd love to see someone sitting in the cinema with a giant bunny rabbit head on.

I've had the dvd since it came out and i'm gonna go see it just because it looks so good on the 28" widescreen tv and therefore will be a visual feast on the big screen (plus i just got invited to the press screening at the Broadway;) )
This is excellent - I assumed it had been and gone and I was going to buy the R1 DVD as a blind purchase, as it is recommended by so many. Now I can see it on the big screen :)
The people who write Hotdog have clearly seen the DVD as they have been hinting for months that it will be one of the years best films.
Even Uk fans who do own this on dvd should go and see it on the big screen. It deserves to be a theatrical hit here as the film got screwed in the US.
EVERYONE GO AND SEE IT ON THE BIG SCREEN!!!!!!
Just read the credits listing in this months 'Sight and Sound'
Patrick Swayze?! Is he any good?
Had the R1 for ages but still gonna see this on the big screen.

nothing special, he only has a small part ...
The latest copy of Total Film has dropped through my letterbox and I've just read their glowing review of this film. So it sounds like a must see for me.
I must be the only person on the Forums whos boat wasn't floated by Donnie Darko...I thought it was a clever film and well acted but it just didn't warrent keeping for me...still, each to their own

LOL your not the only one ... it tried so hard to be clever and fell flat on its face! Garbage IMO :D
it's a pretty good film but far from amazing. it had a very acute sense of mood and place which impressed me, but was rather incoherent. nonetheless i'd recommend it to people who haven't bought the dvd.
This may be old news in the forums, so I apologize for asking , but why is this 2001 film hitting the UK cinemas only now?

It couldn't get a distributor for a while, I think.

It didn't really float my boat either the first time I watched it, but I'm definitely going to give it another go to see how it goes.
Sounds ace - where's the best place to purchase such a potentially excellent film? The cheapest I've found so far is GBP 14.99.
I have watched this twice now the first time had my head in pieces a little clearer on second viewing a good dvd.
This has been out in the states for ages.
It gets 5 stars in this month's Total Film.
