Probably. Teen romance involving a plain Jane type, who is, would you believe it, a beautiful swan.
At the end of the day, the performances (particularly Miss Moore) are so good it gets away with it. But it got one star in my local rag, and two in Empire.
However, comparing it to that other film is huge spoiler as it happens! And to explain why would make it even worse!
The film is an exercise in soppiness, but I am a fan of Mandy Moore's. She has a natural acting ability, beauty and grace that other pop divas-turned-actresses-and then retire for 6 months lack. Moore's performance makes the film watchable!

I agree, this was miles better than it should have been. Quite a charming and unusually sweet love story with two good performances by Shane West and Mandy Moore. Unfortunately the huge spoiler everyone's talking about is the same huge spoiler that's been used in at least 3 other chick movies in the last year and I'm getting fed up to the back teeth of seeing it.
