Brazil - The ending
Question:

Finally finished watchin an recording of Brazil I made when it was last on tv and couldn't for the life in me figure out why Universal would want to change the ending, its already happy as it is!
does anybody know where the Criterion boxset is cheapest? Its £39.99 at ********* but I'm wondering if maybe a company like Anchor Bay UK might borrow the extras from the Criterion version and release it over here cheaper.

that he gets tortured to death?

He lost his girl in the real world and its a pretty rough reality so its better that he stays in his fantasy world with her, living in the country where everythings class :) I didn't think he was dead, more of in a vegetable state

I love the ending...
He's happy in his head and that's all that matters

I love Brazil, and yes it does have a great ending.
I still haven't got round to watching the edited version in the excellent Criterion 3-disc set, which BTW is only about £30 at DVD Box Office (haven't you heard of DVD Price Check (http://www.*********************) Matt:nono: )

I've not watched the "love conquers all" version either, I own it but I don't want to ruin my love of the film by watching the inferior version.

Trust me - you won't. It's such an appalling travesty that there's no chance whatsoever of you confusing the two!
At the very least watch it with the (excellent) commentary, which will constantly remind you of just how bad it is.

Thanks for the tip MB, I may well take the dive this weekend and watch it with the commentary on.

Have to agree. The Brazil boxset is still the DVD package going, and the Love Conquers All version is so very different, it won't spoil your love of the film at all!
Worth every penny

defenitly watch it after youve watched the proper version or it might just put you off it for life :)
Amazing how the studio could of butcherd that film and release it in that state.

"From the studio that butchered Lengend and Stick; Universal Proudly presents our butchered version of Brazil." What they didn't put on the poster. So whilst Sidney Sheinberg was putting money into vanity projects like Jaws 4, his wife is Lorraine Gary, he struggled to get his brain around Brazil.
Also points up the early bad luck, commercially, of Arnon Milchan who produced Brazil, Once Upon a Time in America, The King of Comedy and Legend; thankfully for him his luck changed!
