Question:
I read recently that the R2 Attack Of The Clones will have a 1 second cut to a headbutt delived to Obi Wan by Jango Fett.
So which one will you all be going for? R1 or R2?
I believe they was offered an uncut 12A but opted to have it removed.
Moving to the Region Comparisons forum.

region 1.
I was thinking this too essexboyuk, and the pal picture can't make THAT much of a difference. Can it?
The major question is the details of the R4 release - which won't be cut.
The PAL/NTSC issue really depends on whether you notice the picture (or sound) difference or have a system that amplifies the difference. I don't notice anything different and perhaps my systems isn't good enough :(

Do you know this for sure? Reason I ask is that on the Ep1 release, the R1 had some swearing at the beginning of the documentary from Rick McCallum that was edited out of the R2 and R4 because the discs were dual-encoded.
If they dual-encode Ep2 then the R4 will have the headbutt removed too.

I took it that it was basically dual-encoded to save Lucas money so that he didn't have to produce 2 PAL versions of the DVD.

Not 100% but as the theatrical release was un-cut, I think it will resonably save to assume that the DVD will be un-cut too. For these reasons I have taken the risk and pre-ordered the R4 from EzyDVD as I wanted an un-cut PAL version where possible. The only way to be 100% sure would be keep an eye out on Michael D's Region 4 DVD Info Page (www.michaeldvd.com.au) or wait until its released and reviewed before purchase :D
Yeah I've gone for the R4 cos I want PAL.

It's jut not worth giving a damn about. I will be buying this as a Star Wars fan, but I know I'll be doing some major chapter skipping. The Phantom Menace was more enjoyable than this for me. Never have I been so disappointed in a film. Rarely have I heard dialogue so bad it causes roars of laughter from the audience during a scene supposed to be serious.
And before people chime in with 'oh the dialogue's no worse than the original trilogy', I never heard anyone laughing at the love scenes between Han and Leia.:( :( :(

Yes and I doubt you'll be skipping the Jango/Kenobi fight scene.
Besides, it's the principle I'm against, not the fact that it's a 1 second cut.

Hmm. Considering you're younger than me I am slightly confused where you get your information from.
Toy Story is a kids film but it's good. It doesn't make me cringe, it fulfills its promise. The first two Star Wars movies (and by that I mean Star Wars and Empire) were better written - fact. They are aimed at the same audience as Raiders, Last Crusade and Back To The Future, and yes, they are all kids films. Even Temple of Doom is way better written and visualised than AOTC. If you personally see no difference between these films and the modern Star Wars then fair enough, we'll have to agree to disagree. :)

Knowing that R4 sometimes gets the same transfer as R2, complete with any UK censor cuts (see Tomorrow Never Dies, for instance), I was wondering whether AOTC has been cut. In the UK, the cinema release was cut by one second, omitting the portion in the 'raining' lightsaber battle where Jango Fett headbutts Obi-Wan. Please tell me the headbutt is in the DVD?
It really is silly censorship - a film where people get their arms chopped off, heads chopped off, and they cut out a headbutt that most probably wouldn't have even noticed.

The review has been revised and discusses the edge enhancement and uncut status in further depth now.
Umm getting a bit lost here, let me get this straight, R2 is pretty much out cos of the edited head butt, so the choice is between R1 and R4.
R1 will be a slight loss in quality cos its PAL but am I right in saying the R4 is effected by edge enhancement but not the R1. I can't tell the difference between NTSC and PAL on my TV so I will go for the R1 and hope there isn't any EE.
I think after episode 1 more people will be looking out for EE after reviewing the Episode 2 DVD.
my played outputs ntsc progressive scan, so will i be best with ntsc R1 or a pal region 2?
NTSC R1 will be best if your player has progressive scan.

Okay, I see what you're talking about. Sorry. I was given to understand that all benefits of progressive scan (the major one being lack of pulldown in all quoted stuff I've ever read) are dependent on both player and projection device being progressive compatible (something he doesn't mention - he only talks about his player).

just bumping this.
how bad do you think the EE will be on the R4 disc ?
should i go for the R1 or R2/R4 discs ? I want all the SW DVDs to be all PAL or all NTSC.
i normally go for PAL over NTSC, cos on my TV NTSC has more overscan and i can notice the pic difference as well.
I doubt the EE will be that bad on the R2/R4
The edge enhancement certainly wasn't that noticeable on a LCD projector anyway with Episode 1, so I think a nice uncut R2/R4 at CD WOW is the way to go..
I'm going with R4 :rocker:
Spank Me
Okey. ;)
a wax on, wax off spank certainly sounds appealing :norty:

What is the HoloNet News website feature listed on the R1's extras? It is not present on the R4.
Has anyone considered any of the other region 2 versions?
For example DVD Zone 2 are based in Belgium, DVDoo in Denmark and DVDGO in Spain - presumably these are all selling their "home" versions without the BBFC cuts.
That said, they may be cut anyway - anyone know where to find details of any such cuts (ie the Belgian equivalent of the BBFC)?
Myself I've currently gone for the region 4 BUT I have noticed that ********* are already shipping the R1 version (and by guaranteed next day delivery - at a premium though, but it is 2 weeks early).
The R4 version comes from the European (non UK) master apparently so the mainland europe R2 shouldn't be cut.
Thanx - that's just opened up some more possibilities for me!
The benefit of R4 is that label etc will all be in English
ooops... wrong thread. :dork:
R2 got 1 sec cut. Get R1
Decided to get R2 in the end, just one second cut (which I've seen anyway).
COuldn't resist the amount of bargains on offer for the R2

just bumping this.
how bad do you think the EE will be on the R4 disc ?
should i go for the R1 or R2/R4 discs ? I want all the SW DVDs to be all PAL or all NTSC.
i normally go for PAL over NTSC, cos on my TV NTSC has more overscan and i can notice the pic difference as well.

I doubt the EE will be that bad on the R2/R4

The edge enhancement certainly wasn't that noticeable on a LCD projector anyway with Episode 1, so I think a nice uncut R2/R4 at CD WOW is the way to go..

I'm going with R4 :rocker:

Answers:
The R4 version comes from the European (non UK) master apparently so the mainland europe R2 shouldn't be cut.

Thanx - that's just opened up some more possibilities for me!

The Episode 1 & 2 boxset for £17.79 delivered from MVC - bargain is no longer valid though.
It's been all over the Bargain Forums for the last 24 hours or so.

Gone for R2 as well. Much as it pains me to watch a cut movie, I can live with a 1 second cut - especially when I know EXACTLY what has been cut and when thanks to everyone else on the forums! ;)
