Ultimate Toy Box
Question:

Its about time I brought this fantastic set on DVD but now I'm thinking, which region?
I believe the Region 1 version has a small number of additional extras. Is this true? Are they massive extras like the different versions of BTTF or are just a little padding around the sides.

Answers:

The R1 has all the little "toy-bites" made exclusively for the Disney channel. I think there's about 50 of them - they're very short (about 15-40 seconds each) but brilliantly funny!
As far as I know they're not on the R2.

Answers:

Also the R1 has a 5.1 sound effects only track and the film discs are THX certified which I'm sure are not the case for the R2 or R4.

Answers:

Get the R1, play.com had it for under £30 last time i looked.
I dont know the exact details in terms of extras but the set is worth it for the commentaries, which i dont beleive are on the R2. IMO the packaging is also better.

Answers:

The R1 version has a commentary on both Toy Story 1 and 2, which the R2 doesn't have at all, and the R4 only has a commentary on Toy Story 2... according to Rewind at least. I own the R1 set and it's fantastic. Well worth the money. It also comes in a nice chunky box, rather than the skinny one R2 gets.

Cheers folks. You have been most helpful :) Gonna order it from play now! :D

Seriously, it's a fantastic box set. I think I shelled out 44.99 back when it came out. A truely fantastic boxset, probably only bettered by the Die Hard Boxset (which i've still yet to get :o )
I know you regard the Monster's INC DVD highly with your last thread so i can't recommend this little boxset enough.
If you go for the double pack you'll only kick yourself when you realise that a few quid more would have got you an extra bonus disc.
Plus it comes in a great silvery/reflective shiny box and each disc has it's own Amaray case. :dork:
Gew ooooooooooon :D

Answers:

oh gawd.
looks like i have to get it :(
i also dont have the Die Hard boxset yet :o
looks like i have to get that too :(

The double pack discs (R1) are different from the discs contained in the UTB, they certainly don't contain the commentaries and I don't believe they have the shorts.

Answers:

Also, the R2 didn't work in my Wharfedale 750S, so I had the buy the better R1's!

Answers:

anyone know where to get this cheap and without customs risk ?

Answers:

The Toy story 1 and 2 R1 pack contains the tin toy and luxo jr shorts and outtakes on Toy 2.
great baragin for about 15 sqids i think.

Answers:

Beside's all those other plus points for R1. The R2 has some of the slowest moving menu's ever to grace a DVD player.

Answers:

are the commentries any good on the Toy Box, honestly ?
and what other extras are worth a mention ?

Answers:

The only thing I like in R2 is the post cards you get with it, but by the time that came out, I already got the R1. That was like 2 years ago.

and what other extras are worth a mention ? The Toy Story commentary is pretty good. The Toy Story 2 commentary on the other hand is completely hilarious, and is on my top 10 commentaries list.
Other extras include just about anything you could want to know about the films, including deleted story concepts, animation tests, explanations of the process, and a lot of input from the director and other lead people. It is definitely worth the money.

Yep, don't get the R1 double packs. They're possibly the worst extra-wise of them all.
I got them sent to me by mistake when I ordered the UTB and the supplier wanted to send me the third disc from the UTB to make up but I insisted that the whole point was that the first two discs have so much more on them compared to other versions (and besides, how would they get hold of the 3rd disc on it's own?). In the end they sent the UTB and never asked for the 2 disc set back... so it went on ebay :D.
R1 UTB is the best to get by a mile.
