Question:
Has anyone seen these two Japanese and two korean love stories.
I'm interested in a few opinions before taking the dive.
I'm actually expecting zero response to this thread

Actually I am sitting here with Christmas In August right in front of me! :D
Haven't actually watched it yet, am going to tonight! :)
According to my friend it is a real tear jerker though and yet being the big woman that I am I will still watch it!
For some reason I prefer foreign romance stories to american romance films - maybe Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan have put me off the american ones! :D
Ah ... Mr. Woo trust you to have something I want ... where does your friend get these movies from?

He just bought his from Hivizone, I would not think that it would be hard for you to get since you live in Hong Kong!!! :D
No its not hard for me to get ... but I always admire people who go out their way to order something thats not available locally.
Is the HK R3 'xmas in august 4:3?
Almost watched Christmas in August last night, but instead watched My Sassy Girl for a second time :norty:
May watch it tonight so will post my comments if I do
Love letter is simply superb. A love story but with both humour and sadeness.
April Story might be an aquired taste ( Shunji Iwai ) but it's a quirqy everyday story with nice acting and a nice "thread" through it.
Get them. You'll probably like them.
Shunji Iwai's films are usually great ( I didn't like Undo that much and I haven't seen Ghost Soup or Fried Dragon Fish ).

Nope as far as I tell it is 1.85 non-anamorphic - picture doesn't look too bad at all though and the subtitles seem pretty good and clear.
Of course I will not know until I watch the whole film.
Another film I would also recommend is the korean film Asoka In Ruby Shoes, it's a bit of a strange love story about a korean guy who likes his internet porn and falls in love with a japanese girl who sits in front of a webcam.
The film tells both sides of their story until the conclusion.
Do they meet or not ? Well you will not know that until you see the film!! :p
The HK dvd is unfortunately 4:3 whilst the Korean dvd is 1.85 anamorphic. I will probably upgrade to the Korean dvd as I liked the film but of course you may not like the film at all so would probably be better off renting the dvd :)
Damn you Mr. Woo ... thats another film I have to add to my must see list ... internet porn :norty:
I am a sucker for Korean romances ... sucker in a way that I don't find in HK and most western romances.
Several Korean girls I've known (:norty: ) have told me 'Christmas in August' is their favourite domestic movie. Always wanted to check it out so I'll be buying the Korean release in a few months.
The director's second film - 'One Fine Spring Day' - has been well-reviewed, at least in Europe, but the Korean disc doesn't include English subtitles (apparently a mistake but it's anyone's guess if the company are going to rerelease it). The HK DVD is reviewed at DVDTime, I believe.
Well you guys can probably guess my question :D
Does it have any cute ones? :norty: :D

Sorry to disappoint you but you do not get to see any actual internet porn in the film :p :D
You do know he likes it though and there's a part which had me laughing out loud (it is not really a spoiler)
The guy is surfing the net and he sees a picture he likes - he clicks on the picture and a screen comes up where he has to type in credit card details. He then mumbles to himself ' Damn it need a credit card' and closes the screen down as he is too cheap to pay for it.
Probably the sort of thing nearly every guy has said whilst surfing the internet! :D
I can tell you it stars Jung-Jae Lee as the korean guy who I believe also starred in Il Mare with the gorgeous Ji-hyun Jun. Still haven't bought that yet, keep meaning to!
