Monsters, inc (R2) menu problems on a Pioneer?
Question:

After hearing about all the problems with Monsters, inc. on R1, I patiently waited for the R2 version, since I have a Pioneer DVD player (I think it's a DV-340).
However, the menus on disc 1 are really problematic - the audio cuts in and out, and the video jerks along like nobodies business.
Has anyone else got this problem, or should i seek a replacement disc. The menu on disc 2 is fine, as is the film itself!

This is becoming a regular event with Disney dvds. They can't seem to get it right can they. Is it a conspiracy ?

Answers:

it plays fine on my pioneer 530

havent tried it on my player yet, but have on my computer.
and yes although it works, the menus are really dodgy, can crash the DVD software quite often, and sometimes it is really slow :(
gotta try it on my player.

Haven't watched all way thru yet but menus etc play fine on my DV444.

This was why Disney use their Disney DVD logo with the mouse ears rather than the DVD Video logo, so they don't have to confirm to DVD standards.
They then used this as an excuse for not correcting problem disks previously.

I'm having problems on my disk 2 also, typically with the menu's. Its the only disk I've had problems with, and I've got most of the Disneys.
I assumed it was a one-off and was going to swap it for another at woolies.
I've got a 525

odd - the second disc seems fine on my player. I might try getting a replacement anyway. Anyone tried this on another DV-340?

The menus are odd in PowerDVD. On certain menus, the text doesn't even appear, and I have to guess the menu choices! For example:

Hey! I use PowerDVD and get that with BTTF r4 Special Features menu. After a quick once through the menu score (30secs or so) I get the text. Maybe the same will work for you?
No problem with BTTF on my Pioneer636D though. Wonder if MonstersInc will have an issue...

The text DOES eventually appear. I would assume that this is some problem with the fact that the menus are available in different languages, and the selection text is placed on a separate layer. I think the text appears once the menu has "played through" once (about 30 seconds).

I downloaded the latest update to PowerDVD from Cyberlinks site and it fixed the menu text problem that I was having with the bonus features section.
