I've already got that film - twice. Is the Eureka 2-disc better than the BFI and Image versions? Please be very specific.

No, seriously, an excellent film.

Very specific? I'll just be a tad specific, if that's ok with you!
Image has the best picture quality (perhaps not in the original snapper release though – I’m sure I read somewhere it was remastered for the second release), with Eureka second, and bronze to that BFI travesty.
Eureka has the best sound, and the best score, although the BFI is excellent on both counts too (only 2.0 compared to the mighty Eureka 5.0 though). Image offers two interesting scores, but still claims only Bronze.
Extras are a dead heat betwixt Image and Eureka. The BFI doesn’t even deserve a bronze – no award for the up-its-own-arse extra, an ‘essay’ by Christopher Frayling on how good the disc is! His comments stink of arrogance (dissing the other versions – cheeky bugger), made worse by the fact that he's also speaking from a position of ignorance on the other presentations.
The Eureka version isn't tinted, but the notion that it 'doesn't make any sense' because of that is nonsense. Viewers can work it out for themselves. Also, the tinting job on the BFI disc is horribly inconsistent. Why is it night outside when Hutter heads to Count Orlock, night inside when he has a night cap, and yet daylight by the time goes up to his room for the night? He even lights a candle in the daylight - why?
The BFI disc is far cleaner - no question. But it's at the loss of being clearer. A lot of the information has been lost in the restoration - when you compare them it's very obvious. If anyone has both, look no further than the opening post-credit scenes. Check out the detail on the church tower, or the flowers to Hutter's right as he looks in the mirror. The picture has been muted to make the improvements. And the frame within a frame presentation means that there is every chance those with a widescreen set will see less of a picture on the BFI disc than on ANY other disc they own. Interestingly, the damage to the top of the frame on this scene has been removed on the Image disc, with no loss of clarity whatsoever.
The intertitles look far more authentic on the Eureka disc, and are also made in an original Nosferatu typescript. The BFI intertitles, in green, look completely out of place, whether they were originally meant to look like that way-back-when or not. And as they have made no attempt to 'age' them, why make them wobble all over the place?
There is also tons of colour, within the frame, in the BFI disc, to the point of distraction. It's like Rumblefish on drugs. Was the original Nosferatu tinted around the fingers when someone made a hand gesture? I have no idea, but it doesn't look good on the film at all.
As for the music - yes the BFI disc is well scored and presented - even if there is a huge amount of repetition in the 90 minute score. Bernard's theme is also horribly derivative of a few things - his own work, tons of horror films, Cape Fear, etc. The Eureka (by avant garde band Art Zoyd) is more than a match for Bernard's efforts - original and horrific - which Bernard never quite managed. And it's all in DD 5.0. If the BFI disc is going for complete accuracy, why not present the film with the score it was given? There is an original score that followed this around initially, approved by Murnau, so why not use it if the basis of the BFI disc seems to be 'Nosferatu - as it was meant to be', for better or worse.
That said, I’m a believer that with this particular title, you could make a case for owning the one with the best score. And it’s Eureka, with the at-times-dreadful BFI disc coming in second.
Sadly, hardcore fans of the film will probably want to have all three!
And so…
Picture
Eureka - 4/5
Image – 4.5/5
BFI – 2.5/5
Sound
Eureka - 5/5
Image - 3/5
BFI - 4/5
Extras
Eureka - 4/5
Image - 4/5
BFI - 2/5

There will soon be another DVD of Nosferatu on the market. This is being released as part of a box set German horror classics by Kino. It is also sold separately. Details can be found on the Kino website www.kino.com
Someone on alt.movies.silent who has seen nearly 1000 silent movies reckons that Nosferatu has never looked as good as on this Kino disc.
The other three films in the box set will be
The Cabinet of Dr Caligari
Waxworks
The Golem
This will all be released on the 24th of September.

Well I haven’t done a survey, but I have a strong suspicion that Nosferatu is the most released DVD in the US, and a contender for the title in the rest of the DVD world. You have a choice of over two dozen different releases in America. All these little dodgy companies doing bare bones versions, and some more adventurous companies providing their own scored discs.
A three film collection from Elite also exists, which is near identical to the one Kino are releasing in terms of film content. Unlike the others, its very pricy, although doesn’t appear to be big on extras, and doesn’t mention the score on the box.
Someone on alt.movies.silent who has seen nearly 1000 silent movies reckons that Nosferatu has never looked as good as on this Kino disc.
Well, based on the description on the site, he’d be wrong. The transfer would appear to be the same one as used on the BFI disc.
The ‘lengthy excerpts’ extras are different, and god knows what the two scores will be. But by the sounds of it, this disc wont eclipse any of the current ones, save the BFI if it uses the same music as well as the ‘restored’ picture.
