Doctor Who & The Daleks - Update
Question:

Warner Home Video has acknowledged problems with the UK DVD release of Dr Who & The Daleks:
"We acknowledge that there is a problem with the audio for Dr Who & the Daleks. Warner Home Video takes consumer's concerns very seriously and quality is of paramount importance. WHV is happy to replace consumer's faulty discs if they send the disc only (not all the packaging) and we will send a new disc out to them.
The address for faulty DVDs should be sent to is:
Steven Hill
Warner Home Video
Warner House
98 Theobald's Road
London
WC1X 8WB
Please ensure to include a return address for the replacement DVD.
Please note that this applies only to the UK versions, not the US/Canada or Australia/New Zealand editions".
This is good news. I'll be sending my disc back for replacement.

Answers:

Does this also apply to the "Daleks Invasion Earth" disc as well with the same problem ?
I hope so.

Answers:

I haven't heard of there being the same problem with the second disc. I think this replacement promise only appies to the first film.

I can definitely detect the problem on the first disc in the set (well it stands out a bloody mile!), but I've not found any trouble at all with "Daleks Invasion of Earth".
This is good news (even if it's taken the company a good month too long to finally admit that they screwed up), but after reading of Colin P's experiences with this kind of disc return (in the Terminator R2 episode) I'm a little worried...
Does this also mean that all old stock of the disc will be recalled from retailers so that future purchases can reliably be made, in the knowledge that a corrected first disc is in the package? Or don't they care quite that much about customers?

Answers:

Are Warner's getting a little tight?
For the disk2 problems with Harry Potter they replaced it AND a copy of Willy Wonker.

Just to re-activate this thread - Has anybody received their replacement copy disc yet?
I got a letter from Warner UK saying they are remastering the disc when I sent mine back, but they didn't say how long it would be.

bensonsworld are kindly handling mine. Warner's extremely belated admission of a problem changed everything, and they passed on my returned disc to Warner. I presume bw are waiting to hear from Warner's at the moment.
I'm not holding my breath actually...

The sound is just fine.
A big thanks to Warner U.K.

Have you checked chapter 16 on the new disc? Some people are reporting glitches and picture break-up at this point. Not everyone mind, some people report that it plays fine at this point. I am waiting for more reports before deciding on replacement.

I've also received my replacement disc.
The re-mastered sound is fine, but I am having trouble with chapter 16. The picture completely freezes on my player and then eventually skips to Chapter 18! I tried playing it on my brother's player. Although it plays better, the picture does begin to break up with sound cut outs.
I don't believe it!

Just came back from a few days holiday so I have only just caught up with this thread.
I haven't checked the whole disc yet but I looked through chapters 16-19 on both my DVD player for the TV and the one on my PC. No problems with the sound or picture for me.
If there is a problem with a lot of replacement discs this is a real ******. One of the reasons I switched to DVD, almost at the beginning of the DVD life, was that I hated having to put up with all the physical defects with video tape releases. Now defects are becoming more and more common with DVD discs. Lack of quality control with mass production I supose. Really annoying.

Does anyone else have anything to report on this yet, because I am still waiting for the chance to even try a replacement disc, and bensonsworld, who were organising the replacement for me, have gone suspiciously quiet...
I'm sorry I ever bothered with this, frankly.

I wrote to Warner about a month ago about the faulty replacement disc, but I haven't heard anything yet.

Another update on this long running saga.
I received a second replacement disc from Warner yesterday and I'm pleased to say that both the sound problems and the problem with Chapter 16 appear to have been solved.
I haven't watched the whole disc yet, but the preliminary checks suggest they've finally got this right. It took a while, but they got there in the end.

Does anyone know if the just-released box set by CDA Entertainment "Dr Who - The Motion Pictures" contains the final, third-generation, corrected discs or is it a dumping ground for all the defectively-mastered discs from the first batch?
