Question:
I find that dvds seem hot to the touch if they've been played for longer than around 2 hours. Is that common for everyone ?.
yeah same with me ...
it sometimes feels a bit warm
Me too, as well as music CDROM's played in PC readers.
It's obviously due to the kinetic energy from spinning on the platter. (Either that or it's a really HOT film  :norty: )
I find it varies alot depending on player. on my pioneer i find the disc never warms up at all yet on my cheap matsui the disc is always very warm even if only been playing for half hour:confused:
it sometimes feels a bit warm
"You will like it, it is warm"
Some player transports get hot, so therefore your disc will.
I find they can be hot even if they sit in the player unplayed for a while (especially in my DVD-ROM drive).
My VHS player makes my tapes hot too.
I like DVDsh - they are warm
they always get hot in the player at work but i assumed that was because the video recoder sitting on top of it traps the heat in the player rather than letting it circulate.
or is it something to do with it having a laser shot at it for 2 hours+
my disk gets warm, not hot
Can't say I have noticed

It's been stuck in an enclosed space with a laser, several motors, a power supply and some MPEG2 decoding processors so it's bound to heat up a bit like any electronics will, as longs as it's not boiling hot you don't need to worry as the player manufacturuer will have done heat tests.
My discs don't get very warm in my Sony DVP535. They do in my DVD Rom drive on my computer though. And I don't reckon that it is a good thing either so i don't use DVD's in my PC very often.
