Question:
I currently have the bare bones "Gremlins" R2 release and was thinking of getting the special edition R1 to replace it.
Since my main reason for wanting to do so is down to the remastered print is it worth my while? Is the NTSC remastered picture going to be a lot better than the PAL R2?
The R2 is certainly ok, but am I missing out on a top notch print by not getting the R1 special edition?
Cheers:)
I think the print is good and the extras are worth a look at aswell!
But with the print being NTSC is there an improvement over the PAL R2? Or does the fact the R2 is PAL and the fact the R1 is remastered more or less make them even?
Well I got mine from DVD Soon for £9 so its not the biggest upgrade in the world and also there are 10 minutes of never seen before footage :norty:

The transfer is a reasonable improvement over the previous release, regardless of NTSC and PAL issues.
There are minimal dirt marks and scratches, detail is good but has a slightly faded look which is common on modest budget movies such as these. More importantly though, the extra features are a must have for any fan of the movie. The commentary tracks are 2 of the best I have ever heard on a dvd release, especially the actors commentary which is worth the price of the dvd alone.
You also get 10 minutes of unseen footage all of which can be viewed with or without a commentary detailing the reasons why the scenes never made it into the original film.
If your a big fan of the film then I fully recommend the upgrade.
Thanks people!
Think I'll go for it.
Now just got to work out what to do with my R2.
i forgot how funny this film was til i got the dvd. i made my mum watch it as she'd never seen it and she hated it. didn't even laugh when they out the gremlin in the microwave!
there's just no pleasing some people.

Hehe yes, I can't even look at my microwave without thinking of that scene.:rocker:
Friday night is movie night in our household. Each week, my daughter invites her friends in to watch a movie and last week it was the turn of Gremlins.......most aged around 9-10 and scared most of them senseless with the exception of the youngest! (six)!
Great film, hadn't seen it it years but stood the test of time well. Haven't seen the original dvd so can't comment on the picture quality but this one is pretty good, a little soft in places but not many blemishes. Less than £9.00 so a bargain methinks.
I watched this last night with my gf! Very funny! I remember watching it when i was about ten and didn't know it was a 15 until i picked up my free copy of it (bare bones R2).
Worth owning, if only to finally see the Judge Reinhold sub-plot finally given some closure.
Is it getting a R4 release? Want to avoid the snapper case if poss.
