Blade 2 - action classic?
Question:

Having just watched Blade 2 for the second time on dvd I have to say I'm very impressed.
The action scenes are quite breathtaking and the overall pace of the film is well judged. The story is also quite meaty and satisfying. The villain is what Darth Maul should have been - i.e. scary and developed!
I will not be trading this dvd.

Answers:

Cracking film and a great DTS track.
And the extras! They will keep me busy for ages - a top notch release

Answers:

No where near as good as the first one.

Answers:

Not as good as the first one, but still a decent enough film.

I thought it was a decent action movie, but it didn't strike me as being something that we'll think of as a classic in years to come.

I must have been watching a different film, 'cos I thought it was **** poor. :D and why did they go to massive lengths to bring back Kris Kristofferson? The pathetic story ruined the film. The first 20 mins were good - then it went downhill rather rapidly!

Answers:

no way a classic! classic action is mad max2 and the killer. blade2 is choc full of ropey cgi and a premise that doesn't really work. the original is in another class.

hmmm...I seem to be in a minority of one so far - I suspect most of the responders have only seen the film once - I certainly got a lot more enjoyment from the second (and third!) viewing - hopefully I may have some more backers when the dvd purchasers respond!:)

You didn't need to watch the first one more than once to know that it was a top film. As soon as the film started, I knew it was going to be special (Blade 1 that is, not 2).

I loved it. Better than the 1st. And I too got more enjoyment out of it the 2nd time.

What a load of rubbish, to say it is choc full is stupid cause it is only the ninja fight which is alittle poo. The rest is top notch stuff. Then you say the first is another class where they couldnt get any of the special effects right and all look rubbish all you have to do is watch the end, think some kid did it on photoshop. I feel you have contradicted yourself alittle here:rolleyes:

i didnt think the CGI was too good, but i kinda liked it like that - gave it the comic book feel.
similar to Spider Man.
how many years now, 9 ? since Jurassic Park ? i still think JP has some of the best CGI effects.

I enjoyed Blade 2 for its unrelenting action and stylish cinematography - it was lit brilliantly.
A good noisy, full-on action flick which will be added to my collection for sure. I thought it was well-lit to suit the dark comic material and was directed sharply and didn't lack pace.
But I was a little underwhelmed by the one-on-one fights between the two main protaganists - there just wasn't enough variation and the editing detracted, rather than enhanced, the fighting. Certainly I don't agree that the standard of fighting from the bad guy was anyway near as good as that by Ray Park as Darth Maul in EP1.
Still rather enjoyable overall. Probably make a good demo disc too - its gonna be loud.

I enjoyed it but haven't seen it since the cinema. Nice and violent, didn't seem to hold back at all which I haven't seen for ages in an action film.

great dts track...how's it compare to the dd one?
but overall the plot's its biggest weakness...but ignore that and the action and fights are cool

Production design is immense, you can tell where the money went. Prague is a fantastic place to shoot a picture. The Animatronics by Tippet Studios is MINDBLOWING!!!!!!! The amount of dedication to detail is breathtaking. The photograpgy, although not unqiue, serves the film nicely, after all, it was shot by a BSC :)

Panavision, always wondered that mate, what are the letters after the names of cinematographers names in credits and why do only they have them on credits?

Answers:

BSC - British Society of Cinematographers.

Notice, a lot of the big blockbusters of the 70s and 80s were shot by British cameramen, in my opinon, we have the best technicians and best photographers.

i loved blade 2, there was so much that was great about it it well outweighed the (occasionally) ropey cgi and the silly plotting.
the film looked incredible, due in large part to Carol Spier who's worked on many of Cronenberg's films, and it was paced far far better than the first film. I find it hard to sit through the original without itching to jum to the fighting (which is much easier on the japanes dts version than the UK version with it's silly chapter stops). i've watched the second one twice now and sat through it easily both times. cracking fun, more so than the first. yeah the ninja fight had some very dodgy CGI moments but they were no worse than the la magra scenes from the first and at least nobody inflated like that bloke from big trouble in little china. The reapers were excellent, superbly designed they looked very cool. the fighting was great, though you could tell which fights were donnie yen's and which were that bloke who always works with snipes. and the dts track kicks ass.

I liked this film but was dissapointed they didnt use Donnie Yen much and killed him off very cheaply! he one of my fave Martial Artists (Drunken Tai chi, Iron Monkey, In the Line of Duty and others i cant of right now) and was hoping he might get to go fisticuffs against wesley snipes   this would have been a fabulous East Vs West Encounter !!
I know he was on Blades side but they coulda bought him back after getting killed and have him fight Blade:oh-hum:
(It really confuses me when a BIG EASTERN MARTIAL ARTS STAR is cast into a western film and he doesnt get to show off what he's good at ??
oh well at least he got into the film  I reckon he woulda kicked BLADES ASS though :D

I like the film, have to say I am impressed by Danny John-Jules.
:)

Answers:

i was a bit disappointed with Donnie Yen too, the only bit of martial arts from him was just some bullet time flying kick wasnt it ?
i didnt actually like the end half, the bit in the sewers was boring. Also i found Blade the character a bore too, i know hes supposed to be like that and in the 1st movie you understand that, but watching that character in the sequel i just though 'lighten up man !you sad loner'

Answers:

in the documentary it says donnie yen was brought in as a fight choreographer and was reluctant to be in the film at all, think yourself lucky you got this much.
that said i'd like to have seen more of him.
now for blade 3 they should be looking at mark dacascos, i think he'd make an excellent bad guy vampire:clap:
i really like the idea of the vampires outnumbering the humans, i thought it would be cool if the general population survived by injecting some kind of garlic/drug combo. the garlic so they would be toxic to the vampires and a drug to take away the pain of injecting it. most people would take the drugs to survive the vamps but it would lead to them being addict zombies, only the hardore fighters would remain untouched, thought it would be a cool irony.
