Mario Bava
Question:

Could some kind persons please recommend the best DVD editions of any of Bava's films. I haven't seen any yet so comments about the films would be helpful too. Thanks.

Image in the U.S. have been releasing quite a few of Bava's movies over the last couple of years, follow this link:

Also MGM have released Planet of the Vampires in it's slightly longer Italian (still English dialogue) version; which though not anamorphic has a quite stunning 1.66:1 picture for what was a cheap quickie.
There are variants of some of the Image titles from other companies but Image seem to be trying to put out the most complete version; along with extras, commentaries, etc.

While the French have released a different slightly longer version that is 16x9 enhanced. Sadly it is now deleted as the company releasing it had not properly secured the rights ensuring it became an instant rarity for Bava completists. Downside was/is that the disc has no English subs/dub so an additional purchase of the MGM disc is pretty much obligatory.
A recently released Bava title I would highly recommend is Hercules in the Haunted World which (like most of his movies) shows how he coaxed the most amazing images from the most threadbare of budgets. Also if you can find it (now long deleted) do not hesitate to purchase Rabid Dogs, his last movie which is just the most brilliant picture.

Black Sunday and Black Sabbath are my two favourite Bava movies of those I've seen to date, and both are available on good Image R1 discs. I think they'd make a decent introduction to his films, along with Blood & Black Lace (released by VCI).
If you like them, then I'd also particularly recommend Lisa & The Devil and Twitch Of The Death Nerve (aka Bay of Blood), both again released by Image in the US. There's another version of Bay of Blood available, but I've been told it's inferior to the Image disc (can anyone confirm?).
