Im presuming the R2 is a better version.
From what I can deduce, it has 5.1 sound, albeit originally mono, and a featurette, not present on the R1.
I've got the R2 and there is no 5.1 sound, I think it's only mono or possibly stereo - either way I was very disappointed with the sound.

I'll see if I can find out what the R1 sound is like, which is mono, I would have thought it would be the same.
