Question:
Has anyone got a copy of "Trilogy of the Dead" released yesterday? Is it good? Gimme a quick review.
I didn't buy it when I learned that Dawn and Day are just the same discs which are already available from BMG & Arrow. Anchor Bay did a deal with those companies to release their existing discs as part of the box set. Dawn is cut and panned and scanned and neither has a great picture. Night is a new remastered version. Next year Anchor Bay in America is releasing its own remastered special editions of Dawn & Day and I'm waiting for those.
Can't believe it's STILL cut!!!! It's not as if it's going to corrupt the youth of today, or anything.
Oh ****. I really wanted this, but I know I couldn't stand the cut butchered showing version. Gah.
The cut butchered R2 Dawn is the only place available that has the Savini Commentry. For fans only though!
Also be warned that the version of Night is the awful 30th anniversary version which has 15-minutes of newly shot footage inserted...
I cannot stress enough that these additions are absolutely terrible and have nothing to do with Romero...
Whatever credibility this release had (very little) has been completely lost...
Night - wrong version put oin box which is a travesty
Dawn - 6 secs cut and it's not Romero's approved cut... despite what is says about "director's cut", it isn't.
Day - Decent release but identical to R2 version...
In other words.,... avoid avoid avoid
Picked it up from Tesco's using some clubcard vouchers!!. That way I don't feel so bad about buying this set. The commentary is the main reason I got this and it is a good one. Also enjoyed Day of the Dead. But avoid Night....not a great version. Nice to have the whole set as a package but I will get the "definitive" versions in 2003 when the US arm of A/B release them.
