Question:
Does anybody know if the movies in Warners upcoming Hammer box sets will be uncut? I seem to remember that a couple of these films were censored on their initial cinema release and most of these cuts have persisted over the years.
Also, is Warner's R2 Dracula Prince of Darkness now uncut?
According to Rewind the R2 Dracula, Prince of Darkness is uncut, but I'd recommend the Anchor Bay R1 (R0 actually) version.
While the Warner R2 does have an anamorphic transfer where the Anchor Bay doesn't (both are in the correct 2.35:1 ratio) it misses out on the following extras:
Commentary by Christopher Lee, Barbara Shelley, Francis Matthews and Suzan Farmer
Behind-the-scenes home movies
Combo Theatrical Trailer (with Plague Of The Zombies)
"Dracula and the Undead" World Of Hammer episode
I have no idea if the Hammer box sets will contain uncut versions of the films or of what quality the prints will be, but I'm waiting for a few reviews before I think about buying them.
If they turn out to be sub-standard, I'll carry on collecting the Anchor Bay R1/0's.
