ok, im thinking of buying this, since its in the HMV sale.
or i could go for the R1, is the commentary worth listening to ?
Commentaries are my favourite extra, but since the R2 SE is cheap i migh go for that.
Is Memento really a great film ? or just an average with a gimmick ?
or is that gimmick so good, it really does make it a great film ?

Dunno about the bog standard version but the LE version is superb!

I thought it was great, now the gimmick has wore off and I think it's average at best.
It's one of the cleverest and best films I've seen in a long time. The backwards thing is in no way a gimmick in my opinion. You can see this by watching the film in chronological order (a secret option on the DVD). The whole backwards idea is original and the story works perfectly with it.

I was kinda in the same boat as you Keyser, wasn't too sure if i'd like it but plumped for the R1 LE. Only watched the film so far as the menu's are a real headache but you can get guides to suss them out.
But i would say def go for the R1 LE version, no doubt the comm will be worth a listen but basically it's a great package for a very clever film and well desrved of it's praise.

I was thinking about Memento again last night after going to see Insomnia, which is also very good.
Memento was without doubt one of my top 3 films of the last few years, which also included Requiem for a Dream. Guy Pearce is the best of the ex-soap actors I've ever seen - he just gets better and better - it's not just a gimmick film - it stands up to repeated viewings, and it needs them after the twists and turns of the storyline!
